How did you pick your wedding date?

Was it the anniversary of when you first met?  Did you want to share the date with another couple?  Was it completely random?

We got married on October 7, 2006.  Our original date was September 30th but our reception venue wasn't available that day so we pushed it back a week.  The reception venue was important because that's where my in-laws had their reception 35 years ago.

Changing dates was the best decision.  It rained on September 30th and October 7th was the only Saturday in October that it didn't rain!  It was a gorgeous 70 degrees and sunny sunny sunny!  And the leaves were beautiful!

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

  • We got married July 30, 2004.  Our 5 year dating anniversary was July 29th, a Thursday night, so we went with the next day.  :-)

  • We booked a honeymoon over Thanksgiving break, and then it was just a matter of what day they had available for a wedding ceremony.  Turned out to be 11/23/04, which every 7 years falls on Thanksgiving.  I didn't want a wedding on a holiday (which it wasn't), but it's ok even that our anniversary falls on a holiday.
  • Well it couldn't be July/August/Sept/Oct/Nov because of Jeff's job and busy season. Dec was out bc of the holidays (just too much, IMO). January/Feb/March were all possibilities as May/June were out bc of school ending.

We went with March 28 bc of it being around my winter break here for school. Worked out perfectly! 03.28.08 :)

We wanted a fall wedding, but the venue was all booked through October. We originally booked 9/29, but our deacon couldn't do that day, so 9/22 it became.

We also lucked out with the weather- I went down to the museum on 9/29 to pick up some of our stuff from the reception and it had rained the Friday before- the paths between church and reception were all  mud, plus there was a huge antique show/sale going on nearby under a giant circus tent right smack where we'd taken a bunch of photos the week before. Phew.

  • We looked at all the months and settled on April or December for various reasons. We got engaged April 29th, and I loved the date December 16, 2006, but DH said it was too soon for planning, and I didn't want a super long engagement. So the following April had Saturdays of 7, 14, 21, and 28. 4/7/07 was too short and angular, as was 4/14/07. I really liked the way 4/28/07 looked, so there we went! Exactly one year (Saturday to Saturday) from our engagement.

  • We got engaged in March of 2007 and we wanted at least a year to plan, but didn't want a spring wedding.  So, we were engaged for a year and a half and got married Sept 6th of 2008.  I wanted a late August or September wedding and Labor Day did not fall on that weekend, so it was perfect.
  • We wanted July or August because those are the two "driest months", because we wanted to get married outside on Lake Ontario.  We also wanted a Friday night.  The venue was pretty booked, so we had a choice of a few dates, but August 10th was the only one that worked for all of our immediate family.  The only downside is that it is my SIL/BIL anniversary as well.  Not really a big deal, but we did feel kind of bad about that.  We had the DJ play their wedding song that night for them.

  • We got engaged on May 12, 2006, which was a Friday, I wanted a May/June wedding and it was going to be in FL and both our parents live down there for winter and they didn't want to stay until June so it was pretty clear that May 12, 2007 woudl be the perfect day.. we got engaged on that day and married!  worked out great and the weather in FL is perfect in May!
  • Our dating anniversary is in July, we also got engaged in Las Vegas and our flight there was #777....so...we tried for 07-07-07, but that didn't work out...every venue we liked was booked for that day (1.5 years in advanced).

We then focused on the venue, picked a place that we had to have no matter what date they had open on a Friday (we wanted Sat/Sun to spend with OOT family).

Our venue only had......Friday the 13th open.  Yeah, I know, lol.....but
Friday, July 13th, 2007 was the BEST day and we had perfect weather too!

  • We got engaged on April 5, 2007, one month away from our 6 year anniversary. *note we met in college at 20 and 21 so 6 years seems like a long time but we were young*.

We both love September in upstate NY, perfect weather, not too hot...not to cold and it usually never rains. We had a perfect day on September 19, 2008.

  • We got engaged at the end of August 2008.  My sister actually got engaged before I did and was planning her wedding for April of 2009.  I wanted to let her wedding be first since they got engaged first so we looked at May 2009.  I didn't want to do the summer since I'm not a fan of the heat and I was afraid we wouldn't have good choices for venues and photographers since June is a popular month for weddings.  So we settled on May.  We wanted to avoid Mothers Day and our church wasn't available one Saturday so we settled on the 23rd.  It worked out well since it was also Memorial Day and it gave out OOT guests an extra day to travel and visit.

  • We got married on July 30th as well (in 2005).  We only had one requirement- it had to be in the summer (because I teach and we wanted to take a 2 week honeymoon).  The 30th was the only day we were able to find available for a reception (we checked dozens of places but everywhere was booked).  We met on August 2nd so it was pretty close to that anniversary and my dad's birthday is the 30th so we were able to celebrate that at the reception too.

  • DH wanted to do a Hawaiian cruise for our honeymoon, so he already had a bunch of dates written down as possibilities when he proposed.  I looked at the dates, knew right away that most wouldn't work for one reason or another, and then narrowed it down to two.  When I started calling around everyone seemed to be booked for one of them so we went with October 3, 2004 - one day short of being 10 months since he proposed.  Sooo, basically we booked it around our honeymoon.  I never had an "ideal" time to get married stuck in my head so it was fine with me.
  • I wanted to get married in September/October.  I really liked the date 9/16, we found the venue we liked and they had 9/16 open so we took it.

  • DH hates the heat so summer was out. We chose October 11 because we both had that Monday off from work and it meant one less of my personal days I had to use since I teach and had to write in for permission to use my days. We thought fall would be pretty and still nice temperatures. We had a beautiful day and it was warm enough (about 70) that we could use the deck at our venue.

  • I knew I wanted a fall wedding.  We also knew we wanted to get married in 2008.  Then we narrowed it down to  Oct. because it would be peak time for leaves.  I finally chose Oct. 11th since it was the following Monday was Columbus Day and it would give some of our guests and wedding party a little extra time to travel.

We booked our Venue on Oct. 6, 2006.  The following weekend was two years before our wedding and just happened to have the wonderful Thundersnow of 2006.  Scared the crap out of me.  I now started freaking out that I didn't just have to worry about rain on the wedding day (outdoor ceremony) but now had to worry that it was going to snow as well.

The day ended up being perfect, it was around 70 when we started the ceremony and it was beautifully sunny with not a single cloud!  I have beautiful pictures of blue skies and beautifully colored leaves!!!

  • Had always wanted a Fall wedding. Looked for Saturday's in September, September 19th was the day after DH's birthday.

09-19-09 thought it would be fun......Two weeks before he proposed my sis, cousin and I went to a Phil Jordon Psyhic Show and he told my cousin that something special would happen on 9-19. So we went with it.
