I'm so tired today so I need to think of something a little more active than sitting at a desk! So...
What are you doing for 4th of July?
Do you have any fun recipes picked out?
Re: 4th of July
To be honest, I'm not feeling "4th of July" this year. I LOVE fireworks, but this year I'm just kind of 'meh.' I'd rather stay at home and veg.
We'll probably picnic with a friend. No specifics yet.
After church, we'll head to one of the public high schools for celebrating with a ton of families from the church and whatever family friends those families bring. Since I was about 8, we've rented the pools, basket ball courts and quad and we hang out ALL DAY eating a ton of food, BBQing, playing games, and hanging out. Very laid back. After dinner we pack up and head to the football field to get good spots for the fireworks display. Then we snack and play touch football/ultimate frisbee and hang out some more. By dark it feels like half the town has joined us and the fireworks start. I love it. It's not excited but it just feels like a good old fashioned community celebration and I'm a sucker for that.
I don't know what all I'm making yet... probably BBQing Salmon for DH and I and bringing some salads and munchies to share. But I do know for shure I'm making this cupcake flag. I think it's adorable! Instead of red and blue frosting I may do blueberries and strawberries but I'm for sure doing the little cupcakes on top of the big ones... I think that's so creative!

**I meant to write "it's not exciting" not "excited" and I don't know where the H came from in shure.**
Goodness.
MY BLOG!
We just got half-price tickets for the Cardinals game on Friday, so that'll be fantastic. Weather is supposed to be great too!
On Saturday, unfortunately, I have to go to a cousin's baby shower. I'm very bleh about the whole thing.
On Sunday and Monday, I may be furiously making invitations for that girl I've been talking about. I'm off Monday but DH isn't, so I'll be catching up on Days of Our Lives too!
I guess we have no plans involving fireworks or cookouts. DH's cousin and her boyfriend live really close to us, so if we decide to have something last minute, we may have them over.

We don't have anything big planned- we're going down to the IL's Saturday, they have some family coming and we'll all probably just lounge by the pool. I'm not sure if I'm making anything- I still have to ask MIL if she wants me to bring anything. I am making these for the work party we are having Friday though.
On Sunday, we'll probably just stay home since neither of us have off on Monday. Rumor has it our neighbors set off fireworks right in the street on the 4th (it'll be the first year we're there), so we'll see how that goes
Should be interesting- maybe we won't even have to go anywhere to see fireworks!!
We are going to visit my family and I can't wait. My mom is dieing to pamper me (I've been so exhausted the past week and this crazy conference weekend didn't help! She feels bad she is so far away since my grandfather used to take care of her when she was pg with me and tired like this) and I am planning to get together with my cousin which will be wonderful...lay by the pool and then go shopping
.
Just need to make it until Friday!

So sorry to hear of your loss. T&Ps to you and yours.
No definite plans for the 4th yet because my H "has" to be somewhere that allows him to set off fireworks (he's a little kid like that) and a lot of our neighboring cities forbid the use of fireworks. I told him to pick a place because all I really need this year is a comfy chair to sit in and watch.
LL Bean? Do they have sales?

So cute that your grandfather took care of your mom when she was pregnant!

I'll be recovering from what's sure the be a horrendous July 3rd at MIL's. She's getting "married" that day and (A) we don't get along, (B) The Mr is pretty sure it's just a wedding for show and not a legal marriage, which I guess to some people is not that bad but to us seems weird and (C) we haven't quite forgiven her for trying to cause a scene and ditching from our wedding just minutes after our ceremony and not attending the reception at all!
As for Canada Day one of the local parks here has a international food fair as well as dancers/entertainment all day and then fireworks at night. We'll try to attend that at least in part since i'll be at work for most of it. But not the fireworks though, I always make the fireworks!
YUM! I want to go to an international food fair!!

I have no idea. I was thinking more along the lines of events than shopping. During the summer they like to host classes and ourdoor concerts. I haven't looked in a while to see if they're doing anything this weekend, but they're only about 10 minutes away from us, so it would be worth checking out.

Sorry about your grandfather witty. It's never easy, even when you see it coming.
On a happier note, the best 4th I've ever experienced involved sitting on a floating dock on a lake as neighbors on both sides battled with fireworks displays. It was incredible and a weekend that I will never forget! Needless to say, my lack of plans or fireworks for this year has me insanely jealous of you right now!
Wow! Good for him!
Sleeping!
Lots of stuff all weekend long, actually. Need to get out in the yard, it was too hot last weekend and we were away the weekend before, and it seems there are as many weeds in the garden as plants now!
Planning to run a 5k, if my ankle cooperates... Maybe going out to see my best friend, if she's not in labor (She's 39 weeks pregnant!) Another friend's parents are having a BBQ, my in-laws want us to go out on their boat with them... so we'll see!
No fun recipes for this weekend, but I made a DELICIOUS black bean, corn and avocado salad for a picnic last weekend - http://www.skinnytaste.com/2009/06/southwestern-black-bean-salad.html
I'm sure SF probably has some fun activities, but if you want to head to south for the day, you're welcome to join us!
