Mirena Users: if Auntie Flo stopped visiting... (TMI warning)

... when / how did it happen?

I had Mirena put in Dec '08. After the initial 4 months of bleeding, my period has been pretty regular. It's come every 3-4 weeks. Flow has been normal, and has lasted 5-7 days each month.

AF's arrival hasn't been regular enough to track very accurately, but it's never been more than four weeks. If anything, it's been early.

Until this month. I haven't had a period, at all,  in seven weeks. No spotting, nothing.

Freaking out, I took a pg test last week, but it came back negative.

Still no AF.

Please tell me this is normal, and that my body just finally stopped having my period on Mirena.
I guess I thought if AF went away, it would happen gradually: lighter flow, fewer days, then one month, nothing.

But I can't find anything online that tells me one way or the other.

If ya'll tell me this isn't normal, I'm giving it another week, and if AF's still not here I'm seeing my gyno. But I'm hoping this is just normal, right?

TIA!

Re: Mirena Users: if Auntie Flo stopped visiting... (TMI warning)

  • I think you should call your Dr today, actually. I had the initial spotting, a very light period the first few months, then nothing after as my body initially adjusted.  I would be concerned that you had such an abrupt change in period after 18 months.
  • BunMom - you're right. I called my Ob/Gyn. The receptionist was kinda a b**** about it, but I did manage to get an appt for Thursday.

So assuming AF doesn't show between now & then, at least I'll get seen.

    Thanks!
  • I've had the mirena for almost 4 yrs. AF hasnt visited at all since I've had it. My gyno told me that I'd have the symptoms of pms, but wthout the period. He also told me that my period would get lighter. I spot occasionaly, usually for 2 days.  I also have a check up once a year to make sure its still in place. I LOVE the mirena
  • I got my Mirena on 4/16 (during my period) and bled for 2 more days.  On 5/5 I spotted a tiny bit for about 4 days.  A week ago, I had one little dime sized spot.  That has been it so far, but I used to have really light periods before that.
  • I had mine put in November 09, I had a lighter than normal period in December and January at the normal times, and haven't had one since.

  • I am on the depo shot and the same thing happened to me. Haven't had a visit from af in 13 months. But still get cramps, mood swings, tender breasts. I'm hoping this is just a normal side effect of the shot...
  • I had spotting with Mirena each month for about a year and then no aunt Flo at all. It is great having no period. I would see your Dr, but it is probably within the realm of noamal after Mirena
  • My period was pretty mixed up for about six months after I had Mirena inserted in May of last year, and then it just quit abruptly. If you're concerned about it, you should most definitely make an appointment with your doctor.
