Tammy

Can you update us when you find out about the hospital?

Lots of dust things work out for the best!

Re: Tammy

  • This is such a sad day here in the hospital. everyones walking around gloomy and news trucks everywhere.

Apparently our ER is shutting and most of our services are getting moved to sister hospitals. We're only keeping obgyn, bariatrics, the rehab unit and the burn unit. Thats over half the hospital. we'll go from a 500 some bed hospital to 202 beds. And 1500 jobs will be effected by jan across the health system.. but mostly at my hospital.

As for my department. The number of ppl we need here is based on how many patients we have. so I'm sure we'll get hit along the way as our numbers decline. Our boss is telling us not to jump ship cause she wants to look at numbers and see how many of us she needs here... and at the sister hospital she is over also. so we (or 1 of us.. which i know it'll be me grr) will bounce between the two.

But what makes me nervous is if she doesn't need us all, I'm beat by seniority. I've only been here 8 years and the other girls have been here 30 some (even though 1 girls been doing this job less then me.. but working here 30 some).

Ok, that got long. but thats my day in a nutshell. lots of dust please in the next few months! If its me though, I'll take it as a blessing in disguise.

    thanks for checking in beck!!

  • :Butting in: Good Luck Tammy I really hope everything turns ok for you and lots of dust and T&PS for you.
  • I hope everything turns out great. I will let you know that the girls that have been 30+ years are definitely gonna be let go before you. They are eligible for retirement benefits. You are young so they are going to keep you. At least thats how it usually works. I dont know the situation, but it sounds like you may be ok. Good luck!

Another thing to think about is the girls that have been there 30 yrs might be making more money than you. Might be better to keep you on in terms of $$$$$.

  • that has been my thoughts ever since we started hearing all these rumors.... I get paid a good 6 dollars an hour, atleast, less then them all. AND I know how to do more cause I cover for my coordinator whens he's off and they don't.

But they're all freaking out about some old old pension plan they're in.. and if they have to bob between hospitals, that takes a hit some how (or leave all together). They were talking about that to the boss and she started asking them how long they've been here and blahblah. Sooo I don't know which way she'd go with it.. On one hand, keep the experienced ppl that could benefit from staying.. have a harder time finding jobs cause they're in their early 50s (harder to start over) and send me off when I have 40 some years to find something else and move on.  Or other hand, keep the less money person.

I guess we'll see! So many ppl are just upset cause this will effect the whole community and they're all so emotionally connected to this hospital cause its one of the oldest ones around.

  • I'll be sending you lots of dust. I know what its like to go through this, since that was basically what my last year at the county was like. It's so frustrating, especially when the rumors get started. Good luck.
  • I'll be sending good thoughts your way.  Take it from a girl who's been pink slipped 2 years in a row, they probably (hopefully) will offer a golden handshake of some sorts to get rid of the people making more than you with decades of experience to keep younger people like you.  Hang in there!
