POLL! Starbucks (and similar)

Dave Ramsey calls Starbucks "fivebucks" in one of the DVDs, because he says you can't get out of there without spending at least five bucks.

Re: POLL! Starbucks (and similar)

  • I'm not a coffee drinker, so this is an easy pitfall for me to avoid.  But in the winter months, I do like a caramel apple cider or two.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • i hate coffee, but i love chai lattes. and chai creme frappucinos (no whip). and iced chai.

    i love chai!

i have chai but there's just something different/better about starbucks making it for me! :P

i need to figure out how to make the blended creme frappucino. just milk and ice with the chai? it seems too smooth to be just that.... anyone know?

  • when it comes out of my own wallet, once every few months.  but I've been travelling for work so I've been going every morning.  I'm now on a first-name basis with the barista.  Embarrassed

but I expense it so it's not coming directly out of my own $$ - even though my arse is expanding.  Tongue Tied

My sis works at Starbucks and I asked her how to make this.  This is what she told me.  "The new frap way would be milk pumps of chai and the creme base syrup blended with ice...We used to make it with our creme base with pumps of chai but we switched to using milk."  This doesn't make sense to me but maybe it will to you. :)

  • Loooove coffee - but I try to go to other places aside from Starbucks since it is pretty expensive as far as coffee goes.  If I see a local shop, I'll try it - over here we have Caribou Coffee, so I've made a few stops in there.  I did get some gift cards to Starbucks for my bday, so I've been using it!
  • I used to stop at Starbucks twice on my way to work. At the first one I stopped at I got a grande upside-down french vanilla caramel macchiato and would finish it before hitting the next one, where I would order a venti of the same drink to sip on throughout the morning. 36 oz of bliss. I don't want to know what the sugar or caloric content was! I stopped going 2x a morning when a friend of mine did a little intervention and informed me that I was spending more on my morning coffee than I was my car payment each month. Eep.

ETA: I got breakfast and a water bottle most mornings as well.. and sometimes stopped for a tall frappacino on my way home... hence the hundreds per month.

  • I admit to "needing" their oatmeal on more than one occasion =) Much like with drinks, it tastes SO much better if someone else makes it but boy does it hurt to hand over a $10 and get so little change for freaking oatmeal and some coffee. Two basics.

  • I go there about 1x a mo but every time I've gone over this last year it's been paid with using gift cards.  Otherwise, I would probably never go.  My eating out budget is only $15 a week - I'd rather spend that on actual food than on coffee.  The coffee I make at home tastes better and is only about .20 a cup! :)

  • I spend $3.73 per visit.  I used to go there once a week but ever since having DS I have been stopping there almost everyday on my way to work.

So if I keep up at this rate I will spend $895.20 in a year.  Yikes.  Indifferent

I think we need a demo.  That does sound confusing!

  • I got an espresso machine and now make my own from home so only go MAYBE 1x/wk
