Garbage Plates made the national news!

I linked to this on Facebook too, but did anyone else see that the Garbage Plate was named NY's unhealthiest food?  I'm perversely proud of that fact, lol!

I can only eat one every few months... if that.  I don't get the people who do it all the time!  I used to live down the street from the Tahou's in Gates, and it's where the ambulance crews and cops would go for dinner when they had the late shift.  I wonder how many of them have ironically had heart attacks by now? ;-)

  • No, I didn't see that.  I'll have to check it out, thanks for the link.

    I haven't had a Garbage Plate in a good.....10-12 years.

  • I've heard of these before.  What exactly is in one?  And where can I get one?

    Hysterical!

I love me a garbage plate, but haven't had one in a few years. When my brother came up for our wedding I took him downtown to the original Tahou's. It was sooo good. Looking back, it probably wasn't the wisest thing to eat 2 days before my wedding.

A base of home fries, macaroni salad, baked beans or French fries (you pick 2), topped with choice of meat (hamburger, cheeseburger, hot dog, sausage, chicken tender, fish, fried ham), and then you have your choice of toppings; mustard, onions, hot sauce, ketchup, etc....

You can get them at Nick Tahou's in the Rochester area (the business that invented them), you can find "knock-offs" at Charlie Riedel's (Rochester, Victor, Canandaigua & Geneva).  Not sure where else to find them.

  • I haven't had a Garbage Plate in a few years and they sound really gross to some people but they are oh so yummy.  Definitely a heart attack on a plate.
