Stray cat problem

Our neighbor has been feeding the stray cats which I think has been attracting more stray cats. Also, none of them are fixed, so now there are kittens all over the place. It's getting out of control. How can I deal with this? I honestly don't have the time to find homes for all these cats, but I don't want to call animal control either. I don't really know what else to do or where to go. I'm in the city, in Dekalb, if that changes anything. TIA!

Re: Stray cat problem

  • We're having this same problem. I've almost hit around 5 of them.
  • i have a feeling the only way to get rid of this problem is to call animal control. the cats will keep multiplying if you wait too long.

  • Sorry for my ignorance, but does animal control kill the animals? While I don't want them living at my house, I don't necessarily want them killed either. That's my only reservation.
  • It's cruel to the animals to just let them keep on breeding like that. At least at a shelter they'll have a chance of finding a good home.

Hate to say it but if they have to be euthanized, it's better than dying by being hit by a car, attacked by another animal, or from disease since they are not being vaccinated.

  • I would suggest reaching out to Lifeline Animal Project about their "Catlanta" Trap, Neuter, Release program. This is the safest and best way to deal with stray and feral cats. They really aren't hurting anything as long as they are spayed and neutered so that they cannot continue to breed. The breeding has to stop, whether its through the TNR program or taking them to animal control.

I agree. We also have dogs, and we don't want the cats to come into contact with the dogs because they could be carrying something.

this. where i live, we have a program called allied cats, and they give you the traps and show you how to set them, then when my mom did it it wasn't much to get the cat fixed, so my mom could keep feeding her and having her live outside.
