Oil Spill Volunteering Update

Got back around 8pm last night.  Sooooo tired! It was really strange going down there because my usual role was reversed.  I was the volunteer and had to ask what to do.  It was also insightful b/c now I know what its like to be a new volunteer at AWC.  I'm really glad I went tho, despite feeling like I worked during my weekend, and look forward to going back in 2 weeks, unless AWC starts the 2 volunteers for 2 weeks thing.

Monday they got 2 oily birds in (Laughing Gull-not too coated and Brown Pelican-heavily coated).  I helped tube some birds, band some Pelicans, cleaned cages, washed dishes, made some special formulas, thawed fish and washed 2 Northern Gannets. USFW brought in a duckling that was caught in the boom holding area (no oil), so I offered to take it to AWC so had to stop by there before heading home.  Super cute little guy, we think its a type of Whistling Duck.
