What do you still have to do?

Since we have all had our 1 year anniversary, I was just wondering for those that changed thier last names, if you still have some things to change over or anything else you still need to do?

I still have a few credit cards and my passport. We also need to combine insurances and bank accounts. I thought I would have it all done by now...guess not.

Re: What do you still have to do?

  • I need to get my passport changed and I still have some frequent flyer cards etc that I haven't gotten around to changing yet.  All the big stuff is done.  We actually had joint bank accounts and insurance before the wedding.  Joining our insurance policies saved us about $600 a year so we did that as soon as we could.
  • I still have my maiden name out there in some things like my comcast bill and student loans, only because it's a stupid process to change it.

We combined auto insurances and fully joined our bank accounts within the past two months. That's been interesting.

  • I have my passport and the title of my car.  The passport I knew about, the title I only recently found out I have to change--when they sent me the registration in my maiden name.  I thought changing my name with the DMV would take care of these things, but no.  It's a whole separate series of appointments and paperwork to fill out.
  • I've pretty much changed everything I am going to change for the time being.  There are a few accounts out there in my maiden name but most of them will be paid off before the name change paperwork would ever be processed so I am chosing to leave them.

  • I still need to change my passport (which is porobably expired anyway, so I may wait until I plan to travel again), and my work still uses my maiden name on paychecks & stuff, but I think that is in the process of being changed now. My student loans are still in my maiden name, and I haven't gotten new checks yet.

But all the big stuff (Soc Security and DMV) has been done for a while.

  • I am so Type A- I think I did almost all of it within the first few months.

Oh wait, there is one brokerage/stock account that is still in my maiden name.

  • I have some old retirement plans from previous employers with my maiden name.
  • I did most of mine within a few months of getting married. I just did my passport a month or two ago because I didn't want to miss out on the time to change it for free.

The only thing left is student loans, I think.

  • Just sent my passport application off today, which was the last major thing. I still have some things like a student loan and the water bill in my maiden name, but I probably won't change those.

  • The important things are done (passport, credit cards, DMV, social security card). I change things as they come up, like I just had to do my Delta skymiles account. I haven't bothered with my gym membership or the cable bill. Our bank accounts are still separate (but not for lack of trying! He says he keeps forgetting to get his direct deposit changed). Ah well, we still pay bills on our own accounts, which is working for now.
