Austin-y stuff to do in the rain

I'm so mad... I haven't been back to Austin for more than a weekend or so since I lived moved away in 2005.  Now I have 6 glorious days in Austin and the entire forecast shows anything betwee 30-70% chance of rain.  Pretty much everything I wanted to do involved being outdoors or at least being over 90 degrees.  I mean, who wants to go eat trailer food in a muddy parking lot or eat a sno cone in the rain? Don't even get me started on dining al fresco or laying out at Barton Springs Pool.  Not to mention the lovely hiking/pool/spa day I planned for my mom and I as her Mother's Day gift.  And I had grand ideas of jogging around Town Lake.

Anyway.

What are some great Austin-y things to do when it's raining and crappy out?  Eating out and going to Alamo Drafthouse are the only things I can think of at the moment.  We'll also have the dogs with us but I guess they can run around and go crazy at my parents house because they hate going out in the rain.

  • sorry, that does stink.  BUT, please remember the weather people suck azz at predicting anything so they could be wrong!

what about going to museums, shopping at barton creek mall?  ummm...yeah, I'm at a loss.  you could check out the new fancy schmancy movie theater at the domain.

  • I bet the rain will totally clear out by Saturday!  Fingers crossed!

If I were you, I'd still eat around Austin--just skip the patio if it looks like rain.  Rainy nights seem like a good time for a wine bar!

During the day, hmmm.  Play games someplace like Main Event?  Laser tag?  Bowling/pool at the UT Union?

    This is an AWESOME idea.

I was also going to suggest going to see a movie at an Alamo Drafthouse.  I'm a sucker for that place.

I think the weather people just predicted rain all week long just to cover the azzes.  I'm sure they predict weather by just throwing darts at a dartboard.
