What do you wear?

Apparently DH thinks all I wear is "comfy clothes"- so he says.  Honestly, if Im home all day, cleaning, and lounging yeah I wear yoga pants and a t or tank.

Should I wear nicer stuff everyday (and be the stepford wife he wants me to be)?

What do you wear on days you are home?

Re: What do you wear?

  • i usually wear lounge clothes, but I'm hardly ever home on a weekday. on weekends I usually wear workout shorts and a tshirt if we're just hanging around the house.

if i'm home a few days in a row...say a holiday weekend, if i've taken vacation time, or even if i'm sick a few days in a row. i'll eventually get tired of feeling sloppy and at least put jeans and a nicer shirt on, fix my hair and put on some makeup.

if (when!) i'm a sahm, I'm really going to try to 'keep myself up'. I don't want to be makeupless, crap hair, and dressed like a slob every day. dh would never say anything, but I'd like to at least look presentable when he gets home and I'd start to feel really crappy if I didn't get ready for the day everyday.

  • I wear lounge clothes around the house. I only really wear "real clothes" if people are over or I'm expecting someone!

IM this way too!  But, I have been feeling that maybe I should start making myself look better lately, bc of what DH said :(

I'm this way too, unless I am home for a few days in a row, then I will make myself look nicer.  But last time I did this, DH asked me why I was so dressed up.
I dress nice for work and don't want to get my work clothes dirty at home, so I change as soon as I get home.

  • I'm home all day, every day.  Smile  I almost always put on jeans or a skirt or whatever.  Basically, I wear the same things at home that I would wear if I were going to the store or to lunch with a friend.

I've actually been feeling somewhat convicted lately by the fact that I rarely wear makeup anymore.  I've noticed that I don't normally put it on unless I'm going somewhere where I'll see people that I know.  I've been making more of an effort lately to put on makeup more often, because if I want to look nice for "other people," shouldn't I want to look nice for DH?  He doesn't say anything about the lack of makeup, but he has commented a few times lately about how pretty I am...on the days that I was wearing makeup.  I'm not sure he even made the connection as to what the difference was.  Smile

I feel this way too Carrie! i have a tendancy to just relax and not put much effort in on the weekends when we're just staying in b/c i want a break from 'getting ready' like I do every day. But DH never sees me when I first get ready in the morning and look pretty. He gets the tired, drained, dud that comes home from work everyday and immediately puts on comfy clothes. haha

  • When I get home from work, I immediately put on comfy clothes and take off my makeup. On the weekends I am usually in comfy clothes too because I'll be cleaning, doing stuff around the house, etc. I look nice for church though.

When/if I'm able to be home during the week (SAHM), I hope I will still take care of myself. I think it's important to look nice for your husband and take care of yourself. Not only does it make him feel better about you, but it can make you feel better about yourself, boost your confidence, etc.

I've read in several health magazines that it's very important to end the day in different clothes than you started it. Basically, if you're home all day, don't stay in your PJs, and most of the time, make sure your clothes are something you would feel comfortable leaving the house in, because that means you're more presentable.

  • when i get home from work i normally put on comfy clothes which is yoga pants, shorts, or capris and a t shirt. and most of the time they are t's tshirts.

on the weekends if we are just staying in and not going anywhere i put the same on and i give my hair a rest and dont even blow dry it or fix it i just put it in a braid wet. most of the time i do put on something that if i needed to go somewhere i would be ok wearing.

then when i was looking for a job i would get up when t would get ready for work and i would go ahead and take a shower and i would put light makeup on (like mascara, foundation, and powder) and blow dry my hair. it made me feel better about myself and helped me not get in a rut of just doing nothing to myself. i would put on something comfy but it was def a step up from what i wear when i get home from work. most of the time i would put on a comfy cotton dress (this was in the summer).

  • i think it's appropriate to wear "comfy clothes" while you're at home... you're not out to impress, but at the same time, maybe he feels like he wants you to impress him even if no one else is around...

on the weekends because i generally do all my cleaning on saturday morning - i usually wear my hair up, no make up and cotton shorts and a t-shirt...then i go to the gym or walking so when I get back home I shower and "present myself" for the day. most of the time i'm wearing comfy clothes - but i've watched enough 'what not to wear' that comfy does not mean sloppy to me.

If we're going out with friends or even if it's out to lunch or dinner with just each other - i dress nicely because i know he appreciates when i put in the extra effort to look nice...and i feel good about myself too.

here here!! a lot of military spouses in guam dont find jobs so they decide this is where they will have babies. i know so many of them who have turned in to what you speak of "makeupless, crap hair, and dressed like a slob every day" not just in the house but OUT of the house and one in particular always says she is keeping up with 3 boys/never has a break/etc, and SURE i can not relate right now, but i know plenty of women who do juggle kids and housework and still manage to look presentable at least out in public! show more respect to YOURSELF more than anything.
