Chicago reccomendations

My dad is coming to town with his new wife and they want to take a day trip to Chicago.  What are some great places to go with 3 adults and 2 kids (3 years and 6 months)?  Also, please reccomend  a good pizza place.

Re: Chicago reccomendations

  • I don't live in Chicago, but I love to visit!

For kids and adults, I bet everyone would love Shedd Aquarium.  The last time DH and I went we wanted to try out some Chicago deep dish pizza and went to Giordano's.  I guess it's on the touristy side (which we didn't mind) and we waited forever, but we enjoyed our pizza.

I'm sure some of the Chicago nesties will chime in soon with great suggestions!

  • I second Giordano's! I go there everytime I'm there. Prepare to wait if you're there on a weekend evening. It can get insane. But they have a system down, and it works. Also, try PJ Clark's - not pizza but they have the best sliders and mac n cheese.
  • I'm also not from CHI but love to visit!  I don't have good recs for kids because I've only been there with DH.  For pizza, Lou Malnati's!  I'm so in the mood for it now...

  • Chicagoan here and ready for duty!!  My absolute favorite Chicago deep dish pizza is Giordano's hands down (cheese and spinach!) There is also Gino's East and Lou Malnati's but like I said I'm a Giordano's girl.  None of these places take reservations so be prepared to wait wherever you go.  Will you just be in the city or will you be out in the suburbs too?  There are a couple Giordano's locations in the burbs and probably wouldn't be as crowded.

As for activities, I second the Shedd Aquariam.  There is also the Lincoln Park Zoo which is free.  Navy Pier has a Children's Museum and Navy Pier is definitely fun for everyone of all ages.
