Does anyone own a Great Pyrenees?
If so, could you share your experience with the breed? My husband and I are considering adopting a pup. Thanks!

Re: Does anyone own a Great Pyrenees?
Here's some breed info I found.

Also, I would highly recommend adopting from a rescue that fosters the animals first. That way you can talk to the foster "parents" and get an idea of what that specific dog's personality is like.
I am not a fan, but for vain reasons. They are HUGE and HAIRY. Huge dogs always seem to have less marbles. Also, hairy dogs are a PIA to begin with because of shedding- add in a huge size and you have even more shedding. I feel like the Pyrenees' I know always stink because giving them a bath is a chore and grooming fees are outrageous; it could be the owners on that one, too. I also would be worried about getting a large breed dog because their life span is so much shorter. I get so attached to my dogs, that I can't imagine them only living for 6-9 years
Sidenote: The one thing I do love about them is their howling. I crack up everytime I howl and they howl back. However, some people may find their dog howling to be annoying.

I've actually had dogs all of my life except after I got married and less than a month later my 16 year old baby (chow mix named Gabe) passed away. I grew up with full blooded chows and one was a rescue with some aggression issues (due to former abuse) and she ended up having pups soon after we got her. One of the 7 was my Gabe mentioned above. I think he was mixed with a larger dog, because both males in the litter were much larger then the average male chow. So, I have experience with furry breeds and understand their grooming needs. I would prefer and long to have chows again - I truly understand their real beauty and unique personalities. Everyone we have asked confirmed that chows cause insurance problems and in most cases make it completely impossible to get home insurance. So I have been exploring other breeds.
Yesterday my mother in law contacted us letting us know a friend had a litter of pups from a rescued GP that he was looking to find good homes for. I was just hoping someone on here could provide me with personal experience other than the "breed profiles" I've found googling.
