Lexington, KY reccomendations

My dad is coming to town with his new wife and they want to take a day trip to Lexington, KY.  What are some great places to go with 3 adults and 2 kids (3 years and 6 months)?  We are looking for both food and attractions.

    When are you going there? The reason I ask is they are holding the World Equestrian Event there for the first time ever. THey have already started preparing for the million people anticipated to be there and would not recommend going there during if you don't feel like dealing with tourist, craziness, etc. It goes from Sept 25-October 10. GL, it's beautiful there!

    I saw the World Equestrian event.  We will be there in late July or early August.  My dad wants to go every where since he hasn't been to any of these places in the past 10-20 years.  He is taking advantage of our new central location.  LOL.

    I'm from Louisville, not Lexington - but if you are into horses, I would go to Keeneland. It's a beautiful horse racing park. I don't know how old your kids are, but I've loved the track as far back as I can remember. You could also check out the KY Horse Park, Ashland (the Henry Clay estate), Shaker Village, etc. There's a lot of history in Lexington with Daniel Boone, Mary Todd Lincoln, etc. Hope that helps!
