romantic getaway

DH and I want to plan a quick weekend trip the weekend of our 1st anniversary.  We are looking for somewhere 2-3 hours away (we're in State College area) that has something we could do/see during the day and then have a nice dinner/relax at night.  We would drive there Friday night and return here sometime Sunday afternoon/evening and would like to keep it under $500 for everything.  We are open to any ideas, so send them this way!

Re: romantic getaway

  • I've been to the Seneca Casio a few times for girls trips and we always have a good time. Its in Salamanca, NY and is about 3 1/2 hours from State College. The hotel at the casino is nice but there other places to stay in nearby towns. I beleive there are also a lot of places to go wine tasting in the area too.
  • The Lake Seneca/Watkins Glen area is beautiful! Activities on the lake along with hiking etc and wine tasting is always a good time.

Have you thought about going to Philly or Pittsburgh for some sports games? Even Baltimore isn't too terribly far. DH and I try to go to a new sports stadium every year around our anniversary.

The Poconos are always fun too and not too terribly far.

  • i was going to also suggest the finger lakes or the poconos.

i agree with pp, Seneca Lake is wonderful. there is a park in Watkins Glen that has a ton of waterfalls and nice areas to hike, of course there are the wineries, and tons of romantic B&B's.
