what is wrong with me

I am on the verge of tears because I cannot Insert the nuva ring, I tried for 20 minutes and gave up. What a stupid piece of plastic, invented by a man probably. Hmph.

Re: what is wrong with me

  • I had a horrible time getting it to stay in far enough.  And anytime that I went running, it came out...no matter how far in I thought it was.

I liked the concept of it though.

Good luck...I hope it works out for you!

  • I have alreay decided it is not for me. I was skeptical when my OB brought it up. She gave me a free sample so I thought I would try. I fought with it for too long, I am not doing that every month. Back to he drawing board. I also have decided an IUD is not for me either. I give up. Still no AF either. OB told me to insert the ring anyways which I found odd but whatever. Any ideas?? I hate the pill so much but feel like it is my only option. I will not get depo either.

  • is DH against the "big V"?  or are you still holding out hope that there could be a second on in the future?

You could just  try abstinence!  (ha ha)  or what about trying the whole natural family planning route?

  • I had trouble inserting it the first month too, because it's flexible but you kind of feel like you need another hand ... lol. After that though I got the hang of it and it wasn't bad at all. I never had a problem with it falling out or anything either. But I understand it's not for everyone. I won't go back on it because it made me really itchy ... but I hope you find something that works for you!!

This.  I actually tried it when it first came out and loved it.  Tried it years later and didn't react well to it.  My doc said to fold it like a taco to put it in..lol..that seemed to be the easiest way.

This exactly!!  I agree with pp that it is a good idea, but it did not work for me at all.  I was not able to be on bc, so C wore a condom every time.  I charted too in order to give us a better idea of when we needed to be careful.  I know this isn't the most fun form of bc, but we did find a condom by Lifestyles that was pretty thin that did not make it too horrible to use them.

  • I hated the nuva ring. I used it for about 6 months before I decided I was done with it
  • I don't feel so bad now ladies, thanks.  I thought for sure I was the only person who couldn't get it in.  The concept sounds fantastic and I thought for sure it would be easy to get in.  Every time I thought I had it in all the way I'd go to walk out of the bathroom and it would come back out.  After over 20 minutes I gave up and threw it away.  I just called the OB office and the receptionist laughed at me when I told her all this, she said yeah, it can be tricky, not everyone can do it.  I told her it was a good idea but a 30 minute battle between myself and a plastic ring is not happening every month.

I told her I wasn't interested in the IUD just yet but BCPs make me crazy, she is going to discuss with the doctor and get back with me.

  • We've been doing it with condoms, or "college style" as we call it :)  DH is getting the big V but not til later this summer, and I really didn't want to go on the pill again...however if I get pregnant again I am going to run away and join the circus :)  So condoms it is!

This was us before we started TTC. I can't be on hormonal bc and I didn't want to do a non-hormonal IUD because I knew we were going to start TTC. Condoms and charting. We used the Lifestyles thin as well, they're not too bad, really. The only problem with this IMPO is that you need to be okay with the possibility of getting pg, because the decision to actually use the condom is sometimes not made at the most, um, clear-thinking time, if you know what I mean.

  • Being nosy, but why did you decide against an IUD?

So lifestyles thin ehh??  I will have to try this.  We've been using the Trojan's thin in the yellow box and they are randomly not cutting it anymore.  The purple aren't so bad either.  But I'm so picking up some lifestyles thin on the way home to test out!

I'm just not 100% sure I want one.  I guess I could just try it and have it taken out if it sucks.  My insurance does cover 100%.  Maybe I should just do that.  You know what, I think I should.

I think you should too, lol.  I mean obviously don't do it if you're uncomfortable with the idea or whatever, but I have really been very happy.  And seriously, with 100% coverage you're not putting much at risk by giving it a try.  I bet you'll love it, and once it's in, you don't have to think about it or worry about it for a looong time!   :)

  • I feel like I have to give it a shot, they are calling my insurance to make sure nothing changed.   Last time they called was nearly a year ago.  And they assured me it can be taken out just as easily as it is put in.  So now I need to decide Paraguard or Mirena.

Are your periods generally heavy when you're not on BC?  I only ask b/c I've heard that Paraguard can actually make them heavier, which may be a bear if they were rough to begin with, but may not matter if they weren't bad before.   That's part of why I didn't do the Paraguard, my periods were helllll before I got on BC, so I was afraid, lol.

  • My OB-GYN gave me a sample of NuvaRing once after an appointment.  I definitely never tried it, lol.
