Random Poll (and question)

What temperature do you keep your fridge at?

And if you had your fridge at that temp and suddenly your milk seemed to be not as cold, what would you do?

Re: Random Poll (and question)

  • The only reason I know this is because I am looking at it on the refrigerator door right now, otherwise I would have no idea.  Our freezer is at 0.  The refrigerator is at 38.  Is it more packed than usual? I would call someone to come out and look at it.  I would be upset if I started losing food.

  • I don't think I have an actual temperature guage in there.  The settings go from cold to coldest and both are in the middle (recommended settting).

If my milk wasn't as cold, I'd make sure it wasn't too close to front of the fridge.  Overall, not in the door ( I don't think it gets as cold there). I;d also check to see if any food was blocking the vents.  Not sure if that matters but I tend to think it does.

  • We usually keep ours on 38 but a few days ago MH commented that the milk didn't seem as cold.  So I turned it down to 36.  And the milk still didn't seem cold.  So I turned it down to 34.  I haven't checked the milk yet.  We haven't lost any food yet, just don't think it's quite cold enough.  And our fridge probably has less food than normal right now because we haven't been eating at home the past two weeks because of going out of town and VBS.  I'll check the milk while I'm at lunch today.

Mel: We keep the milk on the top shelf.  It's usually the only thing up there (right now, it's up there with a pitcher of lemonade).

  • My settings are the same as Mel and I keep them close to the middle but your fridge should be around 35-40 and the freezer at 0.  Check to make sure the door is closing completely.  If it is check the rubber seal (gasket) around the edge of the door to make sure it's not cracked/pulling away or anything else that looks suspiscious.  Like other said, is it overly packed or close the the front/on the door?  How old is it?  I'd call a service person if you can't find any obvious reasons because it could be the compressor gone bad or needs more freon.  Make sure you have the model and serial number handy when you call someone because they sometimes ask before they come so they can have parts ready.

Because of how you answered I would call someone to look at it if the milk still doesn't seem as cold. Isn't it a newer fridge too?

It was in the house when we bought it but it was fairly new - I think it was purchased by the previous owners in 2007 so it's 3 years old.  I checked the milk when I was home and it still seems to not be cold.  The items on the lower shelves are cold though.  Oh, AND in the freezer, I had some frozen lemonades on the top shelf and they seem a little soft compared to the ones on the bottom shelf.  SOOO I don't know what that means.  I did check the seals and they are fine.  Sigh.

  • You should definitely call someone then to look at it. Maybe the vents at the top aren't working correctly or something?

The last thing you want is to be eating spoiled food and not even realize it!

  • I'm searching the phone book for someone now.  I should probably find the paperwork the previous owners left though.  There could be a warranty on it (they seem like the type of people to buy extended warranties on everything).
