An emergency root canal yesterday afternoon seems to have resolved the issue / he's pain free now. Well, save for the soreness from having his jaw pried open for 2 hours but I guess the culprit was a wisdom tooth compressing the nerve and causing it to die...thank God it's fixed now. He was able to gingerly eat something for the first time in 24 hours last night and should be on the mend now with no additional complications.
Of course he'll have to get the offending wisdom tooth / teeth removed at some point down the line, but that's another story for another time. (Makes me so glad all 4 of mine are long gone). Poor guy!
I can't wait to get on the plane this afternoon and head out there.
Re: Update on DH
Aww, I hope he starts feeling better soon!!! Teeth are not something to mess with!! I only had two wisdom teeth that needed to be removed, but I was miserable. And my doctor thought it would be a good idea to give me medication that was equivalent to morphine, so that definitely made things a bit interesting!!!
Funny wisdom teeth surgery story: After I got mine out, the doctor told my friend who drove me to not let me get out of the car until she got me home. Well, on the way home, I decided that I needed a certain type of popsicle, so we stop at a Publix. They had put this gauze stuff in my cheeks that had little strings attached to it for easy removal (the strings kinda made me look like a walrus the way they were hanging out of my mouth).... so I'm walking all over Publix completely out of it with these strings hanging out of my mouth and I'm drooling all over the place. People were staring at me like there was seriously something wrong with me. I thought it was hilarious and my friend said I was just cracking up, which apparently made the drooling worse.... yeah, I'm awesome.... haha
CTGirl, I'm so glad that things were figured out, and that all in all it wasn't anything more serious!
Stu - that story made me laugh out loud so hard that HH asked me what the hell I was looking at, hahaha
CT- im so glad your hubby is feeling better!!! Get those wisdom teeth out of his mouth as soon as you guys have the time!!! I'm so glad mine are gone too. My HH still has two of his and I know it will come to bite him at some point later on!
Stu- LOVE THE STORY! Exactly what I needed to get this day back on the right track!
CT-- Good news! I'm so glad to hear that he's doing better.
STU-- ROFLOL
CT-Yay! I'm glad they were able to get him in. I had all four of my wisdom teeth cut out a few days before my 18th birthday. The two on the bottom were growing sideways pushing all of the teeth towards the front of my mouth, not fun! HH was born without wisdom teeth the lucky dog!
Stu-Thats hilarious! A boy I went to school with had his taken out and when he woke up he was singing "Its A Great Day To Be Alive" hahaha! They said he was singing so loud everyone in the waiting room could hear him.
Thanks, girls! I just talked to him and he sounds great so I'm thrilled.
These stories are cracking me up!
I had my wisdom teeth out the summer after my freshman year of college. I vaguely remember drifting in and out of consciousness in the little recovery closet area, and after a while my mom came in to help me put my shoes and hoodie on so we could go. I was all loopy and fuzzy-brained and had the gauze all through my mouth, but I remember saying "I bet this is what being drunk feels like." My mother practically screamed, "Well, I certainly hope that you never find out!" in a very angry tone. Geez, Mom. I'm all whacked out on drugs, here; maybe you should take into account that it might be the anesthesia talking? Anyway, it's not like I was proposing to do a comparison study.
Side note: I later discovered that being really drunk does, in fact, feel much the same way.
Good to hear he's doing better.
I love people after they've had their wisdom teeth out. I took my brother when he got his done and when we came out of the office something smelled really bad, so I commented on it and told my brother it must be him (joke of course) and he freaked out all sorts of crazy. It was hilarious...but mean of me, I know. Then as we were driving he is looking out the window and I don't know what he saw but he kept asking if I saw it and doing the Home Alone hands on the face scream. Then he would laugh hysterically. It was great fun.
These stories are truly making my day...hilariousness!
I don't have any good stories, I've never had to be put under for anything...I was born without wisdom teeth for some reason.
I haved a very small mouth too. The actual extractions did not hurt but my jaw was sore for a few days from being opened so wide. Don't worry too much, I didn't even need to take anything more that ibuprofen and sleep propped up for a few days.
That was the one and only time I have had anesthetic. I don't even remember them giving me anything. One minute we were talking then they were telling me to wake up. I couldn't understand why they were saying that, I didn't think I had been asleep. Then a very cute guy was walking me to my recovery area and I heard someone say we were dancing. I started to laugh and couldn't stop. I think I laughed for the next half hour straight. My mom thought it was the best entertainment ever while I was embarrassed. I knew I should stop laughing, I just couldn't!
