What are you ladies doing for the 4th?
Our town does fireworks the night of the third...well technically it's the fourth because we have to wait until midnight to shoot them off because it's so light out here now. They shoot them off of a barge from the water and we live right across the street from the beach. Usually a bunch of us go down to the beach and build a fire and just hang out with beer and munchies and s'mores and stuff. This year everyone's ditched us so it's just me and DH. It will be pretty mellow. I think we're going to bring our D90 and try playing around with pictures of fireworks.
And it's going to be raining with temps in the 50's
. I'm really starting to get annoyed with living here. It won't stop freaking raining. I'm still wearing my winter jacket and it's JULY. WTF.
Okay sorry that turned in to a rant. So what are you guys doing for the 4th?
Re: 4th of July plans?
My IL's flower shop is in Anaheim, really close to Disneyland, so every year they go up on the roof with chairs and snacks, hang out & watch the fireworks. It's safe! lol. It's a flat roof. If I'll go up there then it has to be safe because I'm the biggest worry-wort ever.
I don't know if we're doing that this year or not. I hate spending more time with my BIL then I have to.
Do you guys think you'll ever move out of AK? Have you lived there your whole life?
Awwww!
We're heading to Columbus tomorrow for the festivities. My sister will be in town from Cali and I am so excited to see her healthy and all! It'll be the first time in a while to have all 3 kids at my Mom's house so it'll be nice.
There is a parade and fireworks show on Saturday and our friend lives near the park they are set off at, so we'll probably be there all day partying. This will be my 2nd 4th of July weekend off in so long since I used to do retail, it is SO nice!
Our town has the Pickerel Festival this weekend with a carnival and everything. We'll take DH's sons up there Saturday and then head out on our boat and watch the fireworks Saturday night (they set them off from a barge on the river). Then, the plan is to go out on the boat Sunday and/or Monday to a bay about a half hour from our house.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
I'm headed to Georgetown for my best friend's parent's annual July 4th extravaganza. They have the most gorgeous penthouse overlooking the Potomac and we've all gotten together watch the fireworks from the terrace for the past few years. I think it is going to become tradition for us-- it is the best time and I've been looking forward to it for months. My bff lives in LA and I haven't seen her since February! Good food, great friends, quite a few drinking games, and lots of laughter. Can't wait.
Happy 4th gals!
I survived the RoLex wedding and all I got was this lousy husband.

Saturday is one of my really good friends annual 3rd of July party...the standard beer, bbq party. Always a good time
Then on the 4th we actually are going to a wedding...yes a wedding on the 4th of July. I'm pretty excited about it b/c a.) we don't have to decide between 4 other July 4th parties to go to and b.) the couple who are getting married are awesome and guaranteed to be a really fun wedding!
I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th!
We don't have a whole lot planned for the weekend, just Sunday. On the 4th we're going downtown to watch the free concert under the Arch (it's the B-52's this year!) and after their show is over the fireworks begin!
Oh, and before we head downtown we're going to my aunt's house for a bbq. Good food, music, and fireworks make a very happy Katie.
I really, really wanted to get married on July 4, 2009. I thought it was a high-larious idea to celebrate the end of our independence on Independence Day. A few key players protested, so I abandoned the idea. But come on, that is hilarious. Plus- free fireworks!

I was born and raised here. DH was born and raised in WA. I moved down to WA for college and lived there for about 5 years. The transition out of college life was really difficult for me though and I just really needed to be home and near my family. DH followed me here. It wasn't really intended as a permanent move, but now we own our house and both have stable jobs. DH doesn't like it here. I love it because it's home, but there are definitely things that I don't like about it. It's rainy and cold all the time for one, and there aren't many shopping options so buying furniture and clothes and such can be a pain in the arse. Plus the cost of travel is getting ridiculous.
The idea of moving somewhere else really does appeal to me....it's just so scary and I have no idea where we'd go. DH's family is on the east coast and neither of us is fond of the idea of moving that far. I don't want to be too far from my family. And the thought of both of us leaving our stable jobs just makes me so nervous. But DH would be so much happier down south.

Saturday we are heading out to my hometown. The 3rd is our two year engagaversary
And ironically we are going to an engagement party that evening for one of my besties (I'm going to be one of her bridesmaids). That day we are visiting my Grandma to celebrate her 95th birthday.
Sunday I'm going antique mall shopping and watching Eclipse with my mom (I think she is more excited than I am!). Then back up to STL for fireworks and maybe a little bar hopping.
DH and I are both off work Monday - hoping to go to the wineries or Forest Park. And we took vacation days on Tuesday for a little rest and relaxation at home.
I can't wait for the fun to begin!!
This is exactly why they're doing it - to celebrate the end of their independence on Independence day!
Are you going to Red, White, & Boom? If so, I'm seriously jealous!
We decided it would be a good idea to have our friends and family over to see our newly-renovated house. It is a crazy idea because we have LOTS of family and LOTS of single friends whom we "adopt" during holidays by playing mom and dad/hosting a party/feeding them.
I work 12 hours the next two days and have no time to get ready for the 50 people who will be here on Sunday. Yikes!
We talked about this at the gtg, but Paul and I totally wanted to get married on July 4, 2008. It didn't work out bc the hotel wouldn't let us, but everyone would have been down otherwise. So instead, we just got married the day before, which was a Thursday (and our anniversary is tomorrow! Woo!)
We can't figure out what the eff to do for the 4th. From our condo on the 12th floor, we can see fireworks for about 7 different suburbs, but DH feels like actually being able to hear the fireworks is important. Meh.
I'm working allll weekend
Plus we don't get any extra for the holiday.
My FIL has a party every 3rd of July because the city puts on a fireworks show on the lake he lives on. I plan to go over after work tomorrow and go out on the pontoon boat with them to watch the waterski show and fireworks. Jason is working though so I won't see him.
