RAWR

Ugh.

My SIL called yesterday and asked if she could spend the night tonight because she had to come into town tonight and early tomorrow morning and thought it would be easier to stay in town instead of driving home. She said she got off work at 4 and wasn't completely sure what time she'd be here. I said sure, but told her several times to call me today to let me know what time she would be coming over.

No call.

9:45 rolls around and I'm in my son's bedroom rocking him back to sleep and the phone rings. I decided not to race for it. When I check the message it's her, saying that she assumes I'm at the Canada Day fireworks and so she'll go too and come over after?! WTF? No return number to reach her at. I want to go to bed. It's 10:20 and the fireworks haven't even started yet.

  • wow.  I would have gone to bed with the door locked and say you just forgot about it since she didn't call or leave a callback number and when she rings the door bell rip her a new one.

good luck dealing with her tomorrow.  Hopefully she'll be really nice to you.

  • OMG

I was up at 8:00 am (Ethan slept in! Holy crap) and she was already gone! She left a note saying she'd be by sometime this afternoon. Um, no, I have plans today with my sisters and my husband will be working. Again, she didn't leave a number to reach her at or a firm time to expect her arrival.

She didn't show up until after 11:00 last night

My husband's family has no sense of what is and isn't an appropriate time... I've complained before about another SIL who called as late as 11 at night and as early as 6 the next morning for no reason other than to chat.

  • I feel your frustration.  I wouldn't have left the door unlocked though.  This is one of my bigger problems with DH's family - no consideration for others' time which I think it also disrespectful. Right back to the inviting themselves over (is it really that hard to ASK if you can stay instead of assuming?)

    How frustrating.
