barberry and golden mop browning

I was out of town last week and came back to Barberry bushes with leaves falling off and dawrf golden mop turning brown.  Obviously they didn't get enough water, but my question is what to do now to salvage them.  Should I cut off any brown/ dying parts?  There is still some green/ fresh wood on both of them.

Those plants should be fine missing one week of water; are they newly planted, and just not yet established?

Try watering them well at ground level (not foliage) and giving them some time.

  • Yah, they are new.  We had a landscaper develop a low maintenance, perineal (sp?) design for us.  Unfortunately, they are struggling a bit. I guess I haven't been watering them enough in the beginning (they were planted in early May I believe) to get them established.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but they area they are now planted was previously grass.  We also have clay like soil.  Should I trim them back or just keep watering them and let them do their thing? Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure if they'll make it, but you can try. If They crap out, replant in the fall when it's a bit cooler. Both those plants are very common and cheaply priced.

For future ref- they need LOTS of water in the beginning.

    Good luck.
