How is the 10K training going? I just registered for my first half marathon this morning *gulp* I found out that Athens is having an inaugural half as part of the 'run georgia' campaign and I couldn't pass it up. I am spending the next 2 weeks getting really comfortable running 4 miles, and then I start training on July 17!
Re: *Alise*
hey!
it's going well...I'm trying to pick back up on a week that I didnt quite make it through..I had to do a 5 mile run, but I stopped a couple times to walk for about a minute..so I want to keep doing that week over until I can do the 5 miles straight.
The problem with this week is that the 5 mile run is on the 4th! but DH says we can plan out a route at the cottages (where we'll be)..and he'll run it with me!
congrats on registering for a half! I would love to do a half, but I think that I'm on pace to do it next year. My suggestion is to try to do another smaller race about half way through as a "training" race so see how you do under race conditions!
goodluck! i want updates!!!
Oooh it'll be fun to run somewhere different! I'm getting really sick of my neighborhood loop. I'm gonna start scouting the local parks around here for some softer ground when I start longer runs. I am registered for a 5K on the 31st of July and I'm trying to find a 10K in September some time since the half is on Oct 24th. I'm really nervous but super excited.
Walking for only a couple minutes out of 5 miles is fantastic! Just think of how far you have come!
do you run on the road, or on the sidewalk? DH always runs on the road even when there is sidewalk because he says it is softer, and better for you running wise.
I actually just looked up the hartford marathon, and you can do relays with up to 5 people! DH said he will definitely do it, and I have two other friends in mind!
I would love to hear updates on how its going! are you using a specific training plan?
I run on the road. My neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks, but I've heard that also. When I can I like to do trail running. It's more fun because there are obstacles and I have to really pay attention.
I think a relay marathon would be fun! There's one in Disney that I think would be amazing to do, you run through the parks after dark, I think it's a 10 PM marathon.
I am using Hal Higdon's novice training plan. It seems pretty do-able. The long runs are gonna be the real challenge, but DH is really supportive (even though he won't do it with me lol). I envy you that your H is really involved. Mine used to be super fit and ran 10 miles a few times a week but now he is so burnt out from work that the last thing he wants to do is run...
I'll definitely keep you updated. I got fitted for shoes the other day and the man at the store told me about group runs that they're going to be doing, so I'm going to do my long runs with them. The course is really hilly, so the group runs are going to concentrate on hills...ugh.
btw, we should both save up money and run this one together one day!
