What are the criteria? (Are there any?)
What's your field?

Please submit a statement indicating your objectives, your special interest, plans and your strengths and weaknesses. Include significant life experiences, accomplishments, or special courses which may strengthen your application.
I'm applying for the Adult Nurse Practitioner program.

So...basically it's a very long-winded resume/cover letter combined? Oof. That sucks. I took a resume/interviewing workshop and learned SOOO much. But it's weird, because I still never know if I'm putting in my CL what people want to read, kwim? Sometimes I feel long-winded, but I have a lot to say, lol!
All I know is that sometimes it helps me to read other people's CL's. I'll post my CNA cover letter from when I first got certified, maybe it will give you something to build on?

It is with enthusiasm that I submit my resume for the position of Certified Nursing Assistant. It is my objective to settle into a long-term career in the medical field, and I believe that my recent medical training, along with my willingness to learn, would make me a valuable addition to your team.
My clinical experience at XXX Senior Care Facility helped me learn to manage multiple patient requests simultaneously, to provide a high level of care with respect and dignity, and equipped me with a broader base of clinical knowledge. As a CNA, I look forward to serving others with kindness, understanding, and compassion. I am CPR certified, and have completed the Blood Borne Pathogens, Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers courses and HIPAA training. I am willing to pursue any additional training required to obtain and uphold this position.
In addition to my certification as a nursing assistant, I also have significant office experience. I have dealt with all aspects of the front office including, but not limited to, greeting customers, handling multi-line phone systems, using a variety of office equipment, and communicating well between clients and company executives.
I would bring to this position a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a desire to succeed. I am a fun, friendly and cooperative person with drive and determination. I look forward to discussing my attached resume with you further. You can reach me anytime by calling XXX. Thank you for your consideration.

This is my resume "objective" (which I think is a completely retarded part of a resume...uhhh...my objective is to GET A JOB idiots!):
To utilize and expand my skills in the medical field by working long term in a facility which offers maximum growth potential via on-the-job education and internal advancement opportunities.
(Be kind all you HR ladies, lol!)
Does this kind of thing help you at all? If not, sorry. If so, yay!
