Anyone order granite recently?

We are renovating our kitchen and want to find a good deal on granite countertops.  We've checked Lowe's and Great Lakes Granite, the latter of which was actually cheaper.  Anyone have any other recs?

  • My MIL recently did her kitchen and I know she got a great deal.   I'll ask her where she went.

  • We just got our kitchen counters from Top of the World Granite on 3 Mile (near Alpine).

Other places we shopped were American Granite and Tile and Pascucci on the East Beltline south of 28th street.

I was never impressed with what Home Depot and Lowe's had to offer for the price.

Thank you!  Why did you end up going with Top of the World? BTW, your siggy pic is adorable.

She went to Great Lakes Granite Works- 3970 West River Drive.  I can't see the other posts right now but I think someone else also mentioned this place too.  HTH!

Thank you!  Why did you end up going with Top of the World?

We went with Top of the World b/c they had a stone that we liked better than what we found at American Tile.

At American Tile it's a warehouse that you walk through, and you actually pick out your slab right there based on what they have on hand.  We had a slab on hold, but after going to Top of the World, we liked their version of the stone better, however at Top, you can only pick your colors based on samples.  Our slab came from Chicago.  I'm pretty sure the price was a little bit better than American too.  They did a great job on installation.  We've been happy so far (it's only been a couple of weeks having the new countertops).

I think at American Tile they do only sales, and then your contractor will put the stone in, or they will put you in touch with a contractor.  At Top, you order through them, and they install.  If that makes sense.

If you go to a real granite place, as opposed to Home Depot, for example, you'll find way more unique stones and colors with a lot of "movement" (which is what they call the pattern of the colors).  GL!
