to be a nerd.
My fault for marrying one. Last night while taking a walk we saw a dad giving his son a tennis lesson and leading him in stretches. I asked if DH would train a kid like that (also referring to our neighbor who acts as a track coach to his 2 kids). His response "I'll teach them Latin, you can teach them tennis".
Seriously - if we have a kid DH is going to be determined that they learn Latin at an early age. He thinks that Latin and Math should be the focus of grade school. (Latin is not his education back ground, he is self taught and has taken a couple of semesters for no credit during graduate school).
Oh well - if I can get him excited about TTC by thinking about all of the nerdy things he can teach the kid, good for me and I'm on track for getting him on board for trying in 2011...haha.
Re: future (hypothetical) kid is doomed!
Nerds are the best! Ted was a nerd in high school... still kind of is one, and I hope if we have kids they end up as smart as him! He didn't really fit into any group because he took all AP classes throughout high school and lettered in a sport every season. He played football, wrestled, was on the golf team, and did track & x-country. He said he did wrestling because it was an "in between" sport so he could stay in shape for football. haha. And he carried A's in all of his classes. I just hope if we have kids we can instill a little more drive & determination then both Ted & I had when we were younger. Neither one of us are dummies and if we just pushed ourselves more we would be in a much better situation right now. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
That's so awesome that your husband is self taught in Latin! Wow.
At least he wants to teach them something somewhat useful!
My husband requested that when/if we have a child the nursery be Super Mario Bros. themed. I said what if we have a girl and he said she can have that theme too. He wants to raise a little gamer
