First big purchase w/ wedding $$$

DH went out and bought us a new laptop today!  Just got it up and running and I love it!

Anyone else starting to spend some wedding gift money?

Re: First big purchase w/ wedding $$$

  • Next week, we are taking a couple of the Lowe's gift cards and FINALLY getting a new garage door opener.  Normally, it would not be high on our list, BUT our next door neighbor has the same model that we do now.  They were installed at the same time, YEARS ago by the builders.

At least once a day, she opens or closes our garage door.  It's ANNOYING and makes us freak out when we aren't home.  I just LOVE to pull into the driveway and see the door wide open.  Thank goodness for deadbolts on the door into the house.

  • Furniture for the condo or paying for renovations.
  • We bought a really big a$$ TV that's ridiculously clear.  I was very so-so about spending wedding money on this TV until he plugged the sucker in. H put Harry Potter 6 in the bluray to convince me it was worth it.  Holy mother of pete, it's clear... and totally awesome!  I never thought I'd care about the clarity of a television set.

This tv was bought under the stipulation that I could buy living room furniture next month :)  Gotta love marriage compromise.

  • We went to BBB and bought up everything else we wanted from our registry. Sleeping in new (really nice) sheets last night was sooo nice. I haven't slept that well in ages.

We're also putting some in our HM fund for shopping!

  • 55 Inch LED 3D TV!! =)

and Paid off student loan and Credit Cards!

  • Our wedding money paid for the honeymoon, after that the rest went to bills. So no fun purchases.... but we ate and drank really good on the honeymoon lol

  • Well, when we got down to our honeymoon, the resort told us that they don't even have the "all-inclusive" package, including all meals, house and domestic drinks, morning yoga on the beach and two 25-minute massages, that expedia had listed for the resort. Needless to say, a good deal of our wedding money went towards food, etc for the honeymoon.

One rather large check is getting put into our house-fund.

The rest will be going to completing our registries! :)

  • The biggest purchase was a new laptop for H. I've been trying to convince him to get one for months. Then I bought a camera and the rest goes towards bills and the HM.
  • Well, I really want to buy the rest of the stuff off of our registries and a new bed. But right now, it is going on bills and then we will tackle the rest of the stuff. H student loans aren't going to be paid off for awhile, so I have given up on those being paid off anytime soon. We had to charge a few things for the wedding and as soon as we get those paid off, we will buy some stuff for us.

  • i bought a nice DSLR camera. it's more an investment for the future, i suppose, so i can finally jump-start my photography career. :)
  • We paid for our plane tickets to LA and back for our honeymoon and 1 excursion that we both really wanted to go on.

There isn't much left after that, but it's been put into savings for now.

  • I'm paying off all my credit cards so I don't have to pay interest etc. but I'm actually going to pay back all that money - we're most likely going to use most of it for a honeymoon in December/January to some unknown amazingly warm place :)

  • We had been saving money for so long that DH went a little crazy once we had money.  We set aside a portion for stuff off of registries and all the fun stuff we didn't buy for the last year and it was mostly gone in 4 days.  He got new parts for his computer and I got a ton of books.  More than half of the money is going to pay off bills and into savings.
  • Most of it is actually going to start our new place.  We are just now moving in together and both of our previous roommates had everything we needed so we are literally buying everything.  The most fun purchase, though, will be a tv.

  • It's all in savings right now.  Our lease is up in Feb. so we're hoping that between the wedding money & the more than doubling of my salary, we're going to be able to buy a house.

  • Hoping to put all of it into a CD account for a house!
  • I'm salivating at the thought of what I'll do... H needs a new laptop asap (he does freelance video editing. He must have an up to date, fast, completely reliable computer and his current laptop is thisclose to taking a shiit) and I.... I want... lots of things.

Will have to sit down and really decide what I want first, but I'm stuck between a few things- starting our kitchen reno (ZOMG I want new cabinets so bad. Old fashioned-looking kitchens rock. 80 year old cabinets SUCK), replacing the carpet upstairs with hardwood (or maybe a laminate? I'm so sure that even with the wedding money we'd be able to afford new hardwood everywhere. Psh), redoing the craft room (new furniture to make my life easier. This one's low on the list though) or getting new living room furniture (also low on the list, not because it's not needed but because I love love love our tired old couch and don't really want to replace it, even though we need to)
