I've been patronized and talked down to in baby-talk voices enough for one day. Can I go start my long weekend yet? I hate looking years younger than I am.
And please don't tell me that I'll be glad about it someday! I'm sure I will, but that doesn't make it any more enjoyable to be disrespected now!
Re: Uughh
*giggle*
The lady would have matched her hot-pink blouse and Adidas slides, then!
Ohhh this kills me...people always think I'm wayyy younger than I am. I teach in an elementary school where the oldest students are 12, and I had a substitute teacher's assistant come to my door this year and ask me if the teacher was in there...I was like "Yes, I'm here". And just 3 days ago I went to the gas station and the lady was making small talk and asked how I was, and I said "Great! It's the last day of school so I'm pumped for summer vacation!" And she said "Aww, that's nice...did you graduate this year?" She obviously meant from high school, as university lets out in April here.
This would be more understandable if I was 20. I am almost 27.
I work at a small university, so the mistake is more understandable, but it still irritates me. I know that people treat me the way they do because they think that I'm a student, but they shouldn't be treating the students the way they treat me, either. Students are people and should be treated as such.
I hate it when people find out their mistake and then make a huge deal out of it (they almost always do). They always feel the need to go on and on and on about HOW YOUNG I look. Then they ask me if I went to school here (no) and where I did go to college (in Idaho-- that throws 'em for a loop!) and if I'm from around here (yes). Why does it matter? Go away.
This particular woman especially annoyed me because my boss handed me my new name tag, with my new name and the "MLS" and "Librarian" very prominent on it, while I was helping her. I had just handed her my BUSINESS CARD when she asked me if I was going to school here.
Haha! It's okay. She's on a wild goose chase. She found some stock certificates from some podunk oil company in the attic or something. The certificates were from 1921 and I can find almost no record of the company. It was probably gobbled up by some huge conglomerate decades ago. She wants to track down the big oil giant that acquired it and cash in her stocks and get rich. Good luck, lady. Your $1.00 share of Teensy Co. is probably worth about $0.00025 in BP stock by now.
She could probably get about 25 bucks per certificate for their collectible value, but she didn't want to even talk about that. She's going to be an oil baroness or nothing!
Let's hope she remembers that I gave her my business card and set her on her path to wealth.
Hahaha... I can't stand when stuff like this happens! Meanwhile, my SIL is barely 20 and she gets served at bars! Most people think she's in her late 20's!
I had a Verizon guy come to my door and ask if my parents were home- I should have said no and shut the door! Would have cut down on the "no I don't want your service" convo!
