Job Dust(s)/Questions...

When I decided to quit my teaching job, my zen calendar read "Leap and the net will form." Well...

I've got two interviews in the next two weeks. One is tomorrow, the other is on Monday the 19th. So, lots of job dust please!!!

The one on Monday the 19th is for a full time job that I really, really want. I feel pretty prepared for that interview, since it's at a place I know really well and they (thankfully!) have a very detailed job description/interview process, so I know exactly what to be prepared for heading in to it. (And yes, I have my outfit picked out).

The one tomorrow is for a part time job that sounds kinda fun and could be something I could do in addition to the full time job (should I get that one). It's leading workshops for the Princeton Review for SAT prep. Tomorrow is my "teaching audition." The catch is I have to teach something non-academic in five minutes. Everything I've been thinking of will either be too short or too long. I was hoping you all might be able to throw out some random ideas of "how-to" type things to explain, and maybe it would inspire me (i.e., if mamie said "tell them how not to make lemon bars" it might inspire me to do something cooking related...except I don't really cook...).

I'm also not sure what I should wear to the audition tomorrow. I'm leaning towards wearing what I would normally teach in, which would be slacks and a sweater and/or button up shirt. Do you think that sounds too formal? Too casual?

  • Will you have to take all the supplies with you to teach the item, or do you have to teach it all verbally/with the whiteboard?
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

They didn't say what would be in the room, so I'm planning on just bringing any needed supplies with me (if I need props) or just doing it all verbally.

I'm hoping there will be a white board...

  • Focus on something else you are really good at... like how to make a scrapbook page or design a wedding invite- the quick and dirty version of course :)
