One year ago yesterday, we arrived in Warner Robins
It's been quite a year! In a good way, I mean. Moving here was one of the best decisions we ever made.
I really like living in GA better than FL, and WR is a really nice place to live. I wish it was closer to Atl. (but then if it was it would probably be more expensive) but I love it here.
I also have to say this local board is a lot better than my last one, which is one reason I'd like to be closer to Atl. Then I could respond to more posts.
Aerorea - thanks again for all the help and info you gave me last year.
Here's to GA

Re: One year ago yesterday, we arrived in Warner Robins
Hi emmie......we moved from Orlando. We still have family there, but aside from them all I missed was being close to the beach. I was *just* starting to miss going to Disney until last month when my brother brought his kids to Disney from PA and I joined them.....ugh. Bad time of year to go there.
So, how did you wind up in Palm Beach, and do you like it there? My in-laws live in Kendall. IDK about Palm Beach, but drving around Miami/Kendall is just hell. Drivers are so hostile/aggressive/dangerous/rude/just plain stupid that I would rather put up with Atl congestion every day than Miami traffic.
DH got a job here. We love the beach and I am really big into equestrian so being in Palm Beach seemed to be a perfect fit so I can show horses out in Wellington and such.
Other the aforementioned, and my awesome amazing totally fabulous job that I am in love with!
I hate it here. People suck, big time. I'm sure Orlando is better. The traffic in Palm Beach isn't bad but I do have to work in Kendall sometimes and last time while I was driving a guy threatened to shoot me. (he stuck his hand out the window in a gun shape and waved it at me!). I feel like everyone down here is a schmoozer and out to rip you off and other than that if you aren't a jew from NY or NJ then you are pretty much SOL.
Example: an old lady was struggling to get her cart to stay in the middle of the sidewalk yesterday at Publix (because she too lazy or couldn't walk it back in, my guess is the former) so I said, "here, let me help you." and took it back in for her. As I was walking back she rolled down her window and in a snarky tone said "well I guess you did your good deed for the day," rolled her window back up and sped off. Lovely.
I miss ATL.
Same reason we came to GA! DH got a job at Robins AFB. He started looking in the last year of grad school with no luck. He's an engineer; knowing how much the FL market sucks for that (maybe not in S FL but he did NOT want to go there) we realized we'd have to look beyond FL and GA was the logical choice. We'd been there for vacation and always liked it.
You are so not kidding about Kendall! I like my IL's but we both hate going there to visit. My MIL has wanted to get the hell out of there for years but FIL refuses; we keep hoping he'll change his mind someday. They have the only Publix I've ever gone to and been treated with blatant rudeness. I could go on and on all day about rude people there.
Orlando isn't quite as bad and driving isn't as dangerous, but it has plenty of people who suck. Crime is getting a lot worse; we were robbed twice in seven months. I swear I noticed a difference in people being nicer the day I moved here.
I'm LOLing at your shopping cart example, because I grew up in PA, and until I moved to FL and since I moved out I never, ever EVER saw carts in parking lots. In FL I've seen them left in the middle of parking spaces, even handicapped ones! That's definitely a FL thing.
I'm really glad you love your job.....you need to in order to put up with FL.
I'm so glad that you like WR! People tend to love it or hate it, so it's hard to tell if someone will like it or not. I truly miss it and, unfortunately, don't get back into town nearly as often as I would like.
