Good recos for eyebrow threading?
I've been eharing a lot about eyebrow threwading, and wanted to know if anyone could recommend a salon?
What is the difference b/w threading and waxing? Pros/cons?
Re: Good recos for eyebrow threading?
There's a salon in West Chester that does it- The Manderine or something??
I've done both. Waxing hurts, but I think the pain depends on the person doing the waxing & the type of wax (I find the hard wax to be the least painful). I did threading once at one of those shops that pops up here and there at the malls. I've heard that it's gentle, etc, but OMG, it hurt!! I am not an exceptionally hairy person but my hair tends to be on the thick, coarse side. I wanted to scream! Even the woman doing the threading was shocked at how difficult it was to take off my hair. She was Indian & many Indian woman have more noticeable body hair so you'd think I would be "easy" in comparison. There were also a few AA women there & the threaders weren't having any problems b/c of their hair texture either. Who knows, maybe I'm just a wimpy white girl! Anyway, I'm still glad I tried it, but I did improve my tweezing skills after that!
PS-my mom had her's done at the Manderine & she didn't have a bad experience. Maybe I need to try it again at a real salon.
I go to Rita at Avalon in Hyde Park Plaza for waxing. She uses the hard wax and she is AWESOME!!! She does measurements, and she's very meticulous - so I get a longer reprieve between waxing sessions.
As for threading - I tried it once at Identity in Kenwood - I forget the lady's name that did it.
I DID NOT LIKE IT.
I found it more painful. It didn't last as long as waxing. AND - while I recover rather quickly from waxing (think 30 mins MAX) - I think I got a friction burn or chafing from the threading. The lady was moving so quickly there was a bit of heat generated by the threads. Anyway - I'm not sure exactly what caused the irritation, but it took more than a day to go away with some heavy lotion needed.
this is COMPLETELY second-hand information, but a good friend of mine used to get it done (not sure where) but she said she is going back to waxing now because Caucasians do not have the same type of hair as people in the Middle East where threading was originated and it's harsher on our skin.
Like I said--completely second hand maybe not true, but she has switched back to waxing.
I guess i'm not in the norm, but I LOVE the eyebrow threading!!! Here in cinci I've only been to the one in the Tri-county mall, but i've had it done in other states also. I hate hate hate waxing my eyebrows, my skin is always swollen afterwards. With the threading, it does hurt the first and second time (and possibly the 3rd) but you get used to it and the last time i went it didn't hurt at all. I think the threading lasts longer than waxing and it's easier for me to keep them manicured this way.
If you try the one in the mall, they usually give you a cottonball with alcohol on it after they're finished, my advice...don't use it!!! just use a dry tissue to wipe away the stray hairs or use plain water. GL!
I'm with you. Waxing causes me to break out and sometimes tears my skin, so I always thread. And I think waxing hurts more, but as stated above, it doesn't hurt much if you keep doing it. I haven't had a lot of luck finding places around town though. There is a place in the Kenwood Mall, next to Dillards. Identity salon does it also.
