Taking Charge of Your Fertility

let me preface this post by saying we aren't TTC yet. but I bought the book recently just to be aware of my own cycle...when i'm fertile, when i'm not, etc. etc.

If anyone else has this book, did you think it was crazy that you can plan the gender of your baby by the timing of when you have sex??? I have NEVER heard of this one before and I must say I'm skeptical.  thoughts?

Re: Taking Charge of Your Fertility

  • CRAZY!!! I just bought it today!  And yes I was quite aware of the gender thing.  There are several ways to "increase your chances" of having a boy or a girl.  There are foods that you can eat to increase/decrease your pH also.  The biggest thing is that the sperm that produce males and the sperm that produce females do not live the same number of days which is why if you are trying for a boy, it is more important that you pay attention to the timing of things.  Positions can help as well!  There are so many different things you can do!  When you are ready just GOOGLE it!  There are SO many websites out there offering tips and advice!!!

I can't wait to start the book!  I've heard nothing but great things about it.

  • I haven't read it, but how do they say you can do that??  That seems impossible, since a million (or however many) sperm are available and it's sort of luck of the draw which one gets the egg??

I was thinking the same thing... it doesn't really make sense to me.

  • I picked up this book the other day and skimmed it a little bit, I did cross the part where it said how to plan the gender and was a little skeptical also. I have never heard that you can actually do this. I am intrigued as to if it is actually true or just an old wives tale.

I don't believe it, God chooses the gender of your baby.

Glad I'm not the only one who hadn't heard of this before!!

Even though I'm skeptical, when we decide to TTC, i'm totally trying these gender tricks!

Let us know if it works. ;)

  • Have not read the book, but I think it's too much of a crapshoot to even bother trying to plan the gender of your baby. I'll be happy with a healthy baby of either gender.

  • Apparently the whole gender planning thing didn't work out for my dad's cousin.... They wanted a boy so they could continue on the family name (my dad's cousin and my two brothers are the last to carry on the name).  Well, 5 girls later, they're basically screwed.  Funny thing though.. my two brothers, both of them had boys their first try... well, one is still "baking in the oven"

  • I'm skeptical about the gender planning thing... sounds like an old wives tale to me!
  • Hmm I'm not sure if I believe it. But then, I'm no sperm specialist :) I'm sure it won't hurt anything to try though!

  • I don't know if I'd want to choose the gender of my baby.  HH of course wants a boy, and I'd love a girl first, but if a boy came along I wouldn't be sad.

  • Hehe I don't really care either way. I think it'd be fun to have a girl, but then, having a teenage girl doesn't sound fun. Okay any teenage doesn't sound fun haha.

  • I am a health policy expert in an assisted human reproduction office.

I guarantee you that these claims are crap.  The only way to be sure to get a boy or girl is through sex selection prior to implanting an embryo.  And that's expensive, although some do it for cultural (or other) reasons.  It is illegal in Canada, but legal in the United States (which basically has no organized regulations in the area of assisted reproduction).

  • I think that if people are serious enough about wanting a specific gender for their unborn baby that they try these methods...well, they don't deserve to have a baby.  What if they desperately try to have a girl, and then have a boy, or vice versa?  Are they going to be devestated, and then what?  Gah...when HH and I do decide to TTC, we are just gonna go with the old fashioned "ready, aim, fire" method.  And be happy with what we get.  Rawr.

  • Hahahah - seriously. Ready, aim, fire for us too. And whatever we end up, we end up with. Because it doesn't matter to me, honestly.

  • Oh, I want to know the gender when we can and not wait so I can plan how to decorate the nursery room and I know I'll want to buy some clothes ahead of time for the baby!
