  • If you want to do something really cheap or are on a budget, you could always go camping or do a "staycation" and plan fun things at home.
  • My H and I are in month 8 of an unemployment streak and couldn't afford a vacation this year. I shopped deals on hotels.com and found a great rate at a nice place nearby. Just the change of scenery and freedom from obligations/stress was an awesome relief. He mentioned today how much he enjoyed it and was glad I suggested it as an alternative to a bigger, more expensive trip.
  • We take turns planning our anniversary. I do odd years and DH does even years. It's our 4th anni next week and DH's turn to plan. We're watching the World Cup finals all weekend. Cool  We're apart during the week this summer, so I'm happy just to be in the same place. Plus, we're both soccer fans. We're planning on cooking a nice meal at home and hanging out there.

  • We are going to do some internet deals the day we leave. We are throwing it all up in the air. We thought it would be fun to just see were we end up.
  • It all depends on how seriously the recession is affecting you. If both you and DH are working and are doing ok, there's not really a reason to cut back. If you guys are in a bit of a tight spot, then obviously you'll be doing things more economically. A nicely prepared and presented meal at home, with some heartfelt cards/words exchanged would be a great affordable romantic celebration.  Our anniversary this year will be simple, since we're taking a big trip in the month before.
