Toledo Unleashed update!!
First and foremost, my sincere apologies for the lack of communication. The last several months have been nothing short of a roller coaster.
The City of Toledo and Ottawa-Jermain Board have managed to throw up enough road blocks, complaints and ignorance to ensure that a Toledo city park WILL NOT be the location for the first park.
Here's where we are today: Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop has opened some doors for us with the Metroparks and the Lucas County Rec Center. We are exploring these options and will provide you an update as SOON as we have more information.
While we are trying to figure out WHERE the park can go, Dani (my wife) and I, and more importantly our pug-pomeranian, Elvis, submitted an application for Purina's WagWorld Dream Dog Park contest. We are one of 60ish entrants. We will only get to the Top 10 if we perform well in the popularity contest which begins mid July.

If we WIN, we'd be able to bring a $500,000 Dream Dog Park to NW Ohio - hopefully Toledo. Please send this to all of your friends, family members, neighbors, co-workers and even people you don't know. This would certainly be a shot in the arm of this project. I cannot imagine ANYBODY saying no to a $500,000 donation from a national organization - but then again, I said the same thing about donating a dog park to our city.
ALSO, if you've sent in an application, you are in line. Unless we open a 10-acre park, we will most likely stick to the limit of 300 members - at least for a while. Your checks have not been deposited, and WILL NOT be deposited until you tell us to. Your membership will be good for AT LEAST 12 months, depending on the month that we actually open.
Bottom line: I cannot thank you enough for the emails of support. You guys are amazing, and together we will make this a reality! If you ever have any questions, please feel free to pick up the phone and call me.

I can't believe and can't understand the constant opposition to this. Some people are just stupid.
I totally agree. C and I were looking online one day at dog parks on Ohio, and Toledo is the only major metropolitan area of Ohio without a dog park. People are complaining because of poop??? Really?? Clearly, anyone who is complaining has never been to a dog park before. Buckeye has so much fun when we take him to the dog park in Coldwater. I would love for there to be a place here where we can take him.
