Name change on passport?

Did anyone have any trouble with this? You need to send an original copy of your marriage license along with your old passport. I don't want to send my original b/c it's the only copy I have! Did anyone have any trouble summitting your license from another country?

Re: Name change on passport?

  • I felt the same way, but that's the only way to do it unless you go to a passport office. I know where I live there's only one passport office and it's in downtown LA.

Everyone said they didn't have a problem. They send your marriage license and old passport back to you.

  • Its a pain but you do get it back.  I had to send the original copy of my son's birth certificate to get his passport and I was really nervous about that too but I got it back really soon.

  • I did because the UK doesn't list the new married name on their licenses.  Apparently you just start using the new name and the government agencies there take your word for it as to what you are changing it to.  So I had to get my name changed in court.  I think as long as it says your old and new name in English, you'll be fine.
  • I FedExed mine because I felt safer with their tracking info.  I got it back in exactly 3 weeks from the date that I mailed it.  I had no problems with the foreign marriage license or getting my original marriage license back.

I would do it now because aren't the rates increasing this month?

  • Thanks ladies!

Ok, I guess I'll just have to do this ASAP. I have everything ready to go, I was just nervous about sending the license. I'm just going to have to suck it up!! DH & I are planning to go somewhere in the fall so I need to just do it.

  • it took 2 weeks for me and i had no issue.  GL!
