I think I need to break down and buy...gasp!...Spanx

Seriously.

When I had my impromptu mini shopping spree in Indiana a few weeks ago, I bought a dress I just love at the Ralph Lauren outlet.  I plan to wear it Saturday to a wedding, but I need something to smooth me out underneath.  What kind do you recommend?  How much $ will I be out?  Who sells them?  Is there any thing comparable for cheaper?  How comfortable/uncomfortable are they?  For someone who's constantly 'gotta go' (although not as bad since I quite drinking)...how difficult are they when it comes to bathroom breaks?

  • I have bought both spanx and knock-off versions and I found the knock-off versions are just not as nice. (Maybe there is a good one out there, but I was spending just as much looking for a knock-off that worked as I would have if I just bought the spanx in the first place.)

The two pair I have goe from under the bra to about mid-thigh. And have straps to connect it to your bra if you are concerned about it rolling down. It also has a slit for going #1, which at first I thought was gross, but it ended up being a pretty nice feature. I think it was $35. I've bought spanx at Dillards once (high mark up though) and Torrid once (tough to find the smaller sizes though.)

This right here is another concern...anything 'support' seems to just love to roll right down.  So uncomfy!  So that's awesome they have those straps!  I actually got a spanx catalogue a few weeks ago but didn't pay it much mind beyond looking at the bathing suits they have.  I have to body shaper thingies from VS, but they are so uncomfortable..and one was from a slightly smaller time in my life and the other was from a lot larger time in my life.

  • Yeah, the straps really make it much more comfortable. I think because you don't have to worry about it. My black one doesn't have straps, but my nude one does. I need a black one for a wedding next  month. I might need to pony up for a black one with the straps.
  • I have some that come up just below the bra and go down to a few inches above the knee, they stay up pretty well. Mine pull apart at the crotch so you can pee without taking them off. Make sure you follow the sizing chart and if you are at a point where you are between sizes go for the bigger one. I wore a pair of spanx that were too tight once and OMG I wanted to die. I think I got mine from dillards
  • Lane Bryant carries Spanx as well.
