BC - skipping a week?

I know back in the day on TK (holy cow, was that two years ago?!), there was a lot of talk about skipping the placebo week of BCP to avoid being on your period during the wedding/honeymoon.

Did anyone actually end up doing this?  I have three vacations coming up, and on my current schedule it'll be That Week during all three trips.  Ugh.  So I'm debating skipping a week to reset my schedule.

Of course I'll talk to my doctor before making any decisions, but I figured I'd see if anyone here had first-hand experience.  TIA!

Re: BC - skipping a week?

  • When I was on BC years ago I did it.  I wouldn't say a lot, but I probably did it a couple times a year.  Never had any negative effects from it.
  • I did it many times for the same reason - vacations or events. Never had any issues either.

  • when i was on the pill for endo i never took the placebo pills just back to back pills for years-no problems no periods
  • yup, i did it a few times too. the first time i did, i had some mild cramping and a teensy bit of spotting the week i should have gotten my period, but the latter times i did it were fine - no spotting, etc.  i always tried to do it ~2 months before i went on vacation, just to make sure that by the time the event came around that I was planning around, things were "normal" again - but that's probably not necessary!

  • yep i used to do it all the time.  you can do it every month but eventually you will have a little bit of break through bleeding/spotting so it's good to do the placebo pills at least every once in a while..........but if you are just wanting to do it once for the vacation then you don't have to worry about that!
  • I would do it all the time. :)  It sucks now that I'm on not on BC anymore because I always get my period at the most inconvenient time!

  • I've done it too - just give yourself enough time to sort your cycle out. I usually spot when I first rearrange things.
