Good Morning! Tuesday Randoms
How was everyone's weekend?
My weekend was great. Even though it was only 3 days, I feel so refreshed. I didn't have any issues getting out of bed this morning.
I went jean shopping yesterday and I spent WAY more than I wanted to, but I found 2 great pair of jeans at the Buckle. I shopped everywhere else with no luck, and stopped at the Buckle as a last resort. I tried on at least 60 pair before finding 2 that were great.
Re: Good Morning! Tuesday Randoms
That is great. I wish I could say the same, but it was quite the opposite.
Glad you found some jeans Wop - I need to get a new pair but am dreading the process - I'll also probably end up trying on 847 pairs before I find a good one.
This weekend was terrific. I wouldn't say I was refreshed this morning too - I'm still adjusting to my normal sleeping schedule after staying up late for those few days.
I'm having a hard time getting back into the groove. I cleaned up my emails...but I haven't processed the important ones.
I am so SICK of having dreams. Over the weekend I had two dreams that my aunt had brain tumors. Last night I dreamed that a male friend of mine from 10+ years ago started living in the sorority house....and my cats were there.
I don't want to remember my dreams. They usually just end in me going "HUH?" and feeling disturbed.
My son's at his dad, so the weekend was a little boring. I went into work yesterday, thinking I could clean off my desk. One of my boss's kept giving me things to do, so I said screw it, and went to the day spa.
I"m refreshed now.
mmmm....day spa.
I'm going to get a massage as a birthday gift to myself. Something is pinching in my shoulder and I have tingling down my arm.
Apparently everyone is still on vacaction. :-) I'm jealous.
I'm here and there as work is off and on. Overall we're pretty slow though at the moment.
I wish I was still on vacation.
On a related note, we bought tickets to Myrtle Beach today! The good news is that we found tickets for $95 per person including taxes and fees nonstop from Chicago. The bad news is that we're flying Spirit. I guess this means that we'll discover just how light we can pack.
I love massages -- I get them once a month. It's not at a day spa place though. My boss's wife does them in her house, and it's walking distance from my house. Sometimes the conversations get a little embarassing, as nothing is sacred with her. She's better and cheaper than the day spa places. I guess it's a trade-off. And my boss isn't allowed to be at his house while I'm getting a massage. That would be too weird.
Sweet! Is that price for one way, or round-trip?
I don't know what the schtick for Spirit is. Are they one of those charge-for-everything airlines?
Round trip. I think it might be the lowest price we have paid for a ticket anywhere.
Spirit is a charge for everything airline. I think they are the US-equivalent to Ryan Air. As of August 1, they will only allow 1 personal item to be carried on free of charge and it must fit under the seat. Our trip is only for two nights, though, so we should be able to manage.
Very nice. Isn't Grand Rapids adding service to Myrtle Beach for cheap? I feel like I heard this and was considering flying there to visit my friend in Charlotte, NC, since I can NEVER get a good price on a GR-Charlotte ticket.
Allegiant flies to MYR pretty cheaply. In fact, earlier this year I found flights for ~$56 RT but the catch was you had to stay Monday to Friday. With our tight vacation time, that schedule wasn't conducive to a last minute getaway.
I did check Allegiant, but they don't seem to be flying to MYR from GRR during October or November this year. I think they might just go there during the busier season.
Sa-weet!
We are thinking of doing an AI in Cancun over Easter next year since my H has Good Friday off.
I love Cancun.
Good luck flying Spirit! I absolutely hate that airline.
But I'm sure your trip will be fine. Especially since you are staying in the US.
Hola chicas!
My weekend was great! I floated the river and had lots of beers with friends and SO on Saturday and then Sunday my mom and I went to check out the craft fair at the Cherry Festival in Traverse City and watched the air show. It was just as great as I remembered it from a long time ago! But the crappy part was that I had to work on Monday so it wasn't as long as I wanted.
I got up this morning and mowed the lawn, paid all the bills (with the right checks this time
haha) and did a million dishes. I feel accomplished for the day.
Awesome - where did you end up choosing?
Catalonia Royal Tulum. I did what Suze suggested and asked the travel agent if they would price match. They actually beat the online price by $50, so I decided to book with them. We are going for 5 days/4nights September 13-17. It should be a nice little vacation.
I flew Spirit with my mom in December to FLL. It was bare bones, but we had no problems.
What happened when you flew with them?
It is so tempting to use them for a future trip to Aruba. Sometimes they are as low as $199 RT.
I'm probably just a snob, but we went to Mexico with another couple. Our return flight was cancelled after we got to the airport. Spirit decided to split us up from the other couple (who we rode to the airport with us from Muskegon to Detroit and were on the same reservation as us). Other couple got a flight out of Mexico 5 hours before us, with a stop in NC with a nice layover (ie stressfree, just enough time). I checked online while at the airport and there were seats available for that flight, so I asked in Spirit would just put us on that one too.
They said no, and instead put on a Delta flight with a layover in Atlanta. I swear thta is one of the busiest airports in the US, and they give us a 40 minute layover. (We had to go through customs.) We we literally a minute or two from missing this flight, the airport staff were beyond rude, and the train thingy that takes you from 1 terminal to another started on fire while we were in it. It was just REALLY stressful. And to top it off, they lost our luggage.
It took them a week to get it to us, and both suitcases were destroyed.
The other couple had to wait a few hours for us to get in to Detroit.
It was just a really bad experience. I'm sure stuff like this happens everyday, but I'd really rather not chance it with either of these airlines again. Their customer service is garbage.* We've had much better experiences on other airlines, so we'll keep giving the other airlines our business.
*If their CS wasn't so horrible, we'd probably give them another chance.
I agree that their service stinks. It sounds like everything that could have gone wrong, did, and their behavior didn't make it any easier. I don't think anything you said sounded snobby. I'm enough of a cheapskate when it comes to flights that I'll do almost anything short of strapping myself to a wing for the cheapest possible ticket.
We flew nonstop (and will again this time) and I feel like that leaves fewer opportunities for disaster. We'll also carry-on luggage (limited to the one free personal item), which also limits the chances for things to go wrong. I realize that this is not always an option.
When my mom and I flew Spirit last year, I was on an itinerary that included L. I bought his ticket and then he couldn't go due to work. When I checked in for our return flight, he got checked-in automatically. I don't know how that happened since he wasn't checked in for the first leg and usually on a RT they just cancel your second leg. Anyhow, I tried to tell the ticket agent at the desk what had happened so that their passenger manifest would be accurate, but she looked at me like I had two heads. Sure enough, on the plane, they paged asking if he was on board. Idiots.
Ha! I wish...
I would share with you if I did
