AC poll

Just curious with all of the heat lately.

Do you have air conditioning in your house?

If yes, is it central air or window units?

Which rooms?

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on?

If no, is it because of personal preference, or cost?

How do you keep your home comfortable on days like today?

  • Re: Boston condo (not SC house!)

Do you have air conditioning in your house? Yes

If yes, is it central air or window units? Central- we installed it a few years ago. It was either a trip to Spain/Morocco or central air. The central air won.

    Which rooms? All (3)

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on? Not very- 85.

If no, is it because of personal preference, or cost?

  • Do you have air conditioning in your house? Yes

If yes, is it central air or window units? One built in wall unit.

Which rooms? It's in the dining room, which is open to the kitchen.  It also manages to keep the rest of the first floor humidity-free, but not extremely cool.

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on? Probably upper 80s.  If it gets to 80 degrees inside, I feel like it might be time to turn it on for a few hours just to keep things under control.

If no, is it because of personal preference, or cost? We don't have air conditioning upstairs, but I am considering getting a window unit for our bedroom.  I woke up this morning to 80 degree temps outside and it was just gross.  I have hesitated on buying one mostly because I just don't feel like dealing with the hassle of buying and installing it.  I think it would greatly improve my quality of life.

How do you keep your home comfortable on days like today? I have a box fan in my bedroom window and an oscillating fan circulating the air through the room.  It wasn't helping a ton though since even the air from outside was hot and stuffy.  Unless I was directly in front of a fan, it was really hot.  Usually this fan system is enough, especially when it dips down to 70 or below at night.

  •  (I live in an apartment, not a house yet!) =)

Do you have air conditioning in your house?

Yes (our apartment, not a house)

If yes, is it central air or window units?

    Central Air

    Which rooms?

All rooms, kitchen, dining, living room, bedroom & bathroom. But our apartment is pretty small and on the first floor!

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on?

80-85, unfortunately. I have asthma so I can't breathe easily in the heat. As much as we like to save money, the AC is one thing we can't skimp on!

If no, is it because of personal preference, or cost?

How do you keep your home comfortable on days like today?

    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Do you have air conditioning in your house? Yes

If yes, is it central air or window units? Two window units.

Which rooms? One is in the dining area window which covers the living/dining/kitchen open concept area. The other is in our bedroom.

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on? ~85

  • Do you have air conditioning in your house? Yes

If yes, is it central air or window units? Central

Which rooms? Central, so all of them. But we have two zones, upstairs and downstairs, which is really nice since we can just cool/heat one floor at a time and save some money that way.

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on? I don't know, we just turn it on whenever it starts to feel uncomfortable--maybe somewhere around 85 degrees?

If no, is it because of personal preference, or cost? Cost for sure.

How do you keep your home comfortable on days like today? When we get home we turn on the A/C downstairs (it's always off while we're gone). If it's relatively cool outside, DH will open the upstairs windows to at least somewhat cool down the floor. Then after dinner and before bedtime we'll turn off the downstairs A/C and turn on the upstairs. Sometimes DH will also keep a large fan running in the bedroom while we sleep so we don't have to turn the A/C down quite as much all night.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on? We turn ours on once it gets uncomfortable. Usually in the 80's

If no, is it because of personal preference, or cost? Definitely cost.

How do you keep your home comfortable on days like today? That's a tough one. We keep all of our shades down so the sun doesn't get in and warm it up. We also always have the ceiling fan on at night when we sleep.

  • Do you have air conditioning in your house?

    yes

If yes, is it central air or window units?

    central air

    Which rooms?

    all

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on?

mid-high 80s...depending on humidity.  if it's 85 but not humid and cooling off at night, I'll leave it off.  If it's warm at night and/or humid, it comes on

If no, is it because of personal preference, or cost?

How do you keep your home comfortable on days like today?

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on?We have it set to kick on if it gets above 75 in the apartment. H REALLY hates the heat and if it's any warmer than that neither of us can sleep.
If no, is it because of personal preference, or cost? How do you keep your home comfortable on days like today? It's nice and cool in our apartment - so grateful to have the AC! In Florida where we used to live AC was a foregone conclusion for the most part, so for us that was a part of what we looked for in when we made our decision on where we were going to live.
  • Do you have air conditioning in your house? Yep

If yes, is it central air or window units? Central

    Which rooms? All

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on? We've been using it for months now.. I don't know how warm it was though.. it could have been when it was still in the 60s because I was having terrible allergies and we couldn't keep the windows open

How do you keep your home comfortable on days like today? We keep our bedroom fan on and also plug in a portable fan in the living room just to keep the air from running all day long..

  • Do you have air conditioning in your house?  Yes

If yes, is it central air or window units?  Central

    Which rooms?  All of them

How hot does it have to get outside before you turn it on?  If the house hits 80 it goes on for the first time... unless the house can drop to 72 on its own, it stays on
