HM Do-Over!

So, HB and I decided we are going to do a HM do-over. I rained every day, except one - and while we were driving back to the airport the day we were leaving back to Chicago, we got hit by a school bus - in our rental car!

So...where should we go? We probably won't go back to GC, because we've already been there. Here's where we've been, so if you have a good idea where we should go in the Caribbean, please help us!

We have already been to the following places, and prefer to go somewhere new:
- Jamaica
- Mexico (Riviera Maya, Puerta Vallarta)
- Aruba
- Bahamas
- St. Lucia
- Grand Cayman

Re: HM Do-Over!

  • We went to Sandals Royal Carribean (it was an AI) Montego Bay for our HM. We absolutely loved it and I would definitely go back and recommend it to others. There a several other beautiful resorts in Jamaica as well, but RC and the other Montego Bay are really close to the airport. Some of the others are about a 2 hour trip from the airport to the resort. There is so much to do, we didn't get to do it all, but were happy with what we did get to experience.

I have never been to the other places you listed, but I know some of the girls on here went to Aruba for their HM's. Maybe they will have some good reviews as well.

  • that really sucks k! i hope you had insurance on that rental car! a school bus should not be driving fast enough to hit you--jeez.

H and i went to the Dominican Republic and absolutely loved it. Excellence Punta Cana was the name of the resort. it is 4 1/2 stars and i definitely could tell the difference between the 4 star places i have been. the food was quite good with plenty of healthy options (and i am a picky eater), pools beautiful, grounds were like a lush tropical garden. the rooms were lovely, as was the beach. i swear, the time i spent reading in the hammock outside our room was some of the most relaxed hours of my life!! i completely recommend it. the one thing i woudl say is that the resort is an hour away from Punta Cana airport. we didn't mind the ride around though. plus jetblue flies there so i got miles Smile

  • that sucks!  I vote for St. Lucia.  Thats where we went & Id go back in a heartbeat.  Stayed at the Sandals Regency.

I'm terrified of open water, so a cruise is out of the question...LOL!  Hawaii would be lovely!

  • St. Martin/St. Maarten.  I have been to lots of islands in the Caribbean and it is by far my favorite.  Beaches are absolutely gorgeous and they have a fun night life there.  I prefer the Dutch side but I have heard good things about the French side too.

St. John is also really nice but the majority of the island is a national park, which I love because it is quiet and peaceful but if you are looking to go out it might not be for you.

  • Why don't you go to somewhere in Europe? It sounds like you've done a lot of tropical destinations. It may be fun to go to Spain (although, I'd wait until the world cup was over!), Paris, or Venice and Rome. All those places have a lot to do and are so beautiful!

I'm so jealous yall are having a honeymoon do over! haha

  • I agree, try Europe. London is fabulous. Paris would be amazing. So would Rome. I'm jealous of your honeymoon do-over also!

  • I loved Grand Cayman. We didn't honeymoon there, but we were there during a cruise. I say do that.

We're doing a second honeymoon in Ireland next year. We don't have the money now, but with our saved wedding money, we should. I can't wait!

  • I vote South Carolina if you are the mood for something a little different. It's wonderful!

I second Excellence, H and I had our wedding and HM there and I loved it.  But I also HIGHLY recommend Edinburgh, Scotland, if you want something a little different.  And summer is a great time to do it, you get light from 4am to 11pm, so you can stay out all night!

Yup, ditto!! No matter where you go, it's just a vacation. Ya can't do the HM over. Sounds fun, though!

  • The Outer Banks is a nice place.

  • I agree with the other two posts on Excellence Punta Cana, it was amazing!  There was stuff to do, or you could do nothing. Food was great and DH is a picky eater!

Ice cold towels brought to you on the beach with ice tea and any other drink you could want and snacks!!  We did not end up leaving the resort, but had plenty to do there so there was no need, but a few other HM we met did go out on excursions and had fun.

Sorry you guys had icky weather and seriously...hit by a bus!!!!  GL!

  • We went to St. Maarten and loved it. It's really clean and the locals are much better and less pushy than some of the other Caribbean islands like Jamaica. We're planning on going back in a couple years. I agree with PP that the Dutch side is the place to be. We stayed at Divi Little Bay and would highly recommend them.
