BC Weight Gain

Just wondering... of any of you that have had weight gain as a side effect of you bc, did you change pills due to it? If you did switch or stop taking your bd, did the extra weight seem to go away without too much extra effort on your part?

Re: BC Weight Gain

  • I have been on the Pill for a few years now. I think I have gained a bit of weight, but do a good job getting my butt to the gym to offset it. I noticed a difference at first, but for me, since I have been on it awhile, I can't seem to notice many flucuations unless of course I am eating like a pig or something.

I have been on the pill for about 4 years now, but just switched to a new one in Jan. I have noticed weight gain since then, not to mention I gained a cup size. I am not complaining (neither is the DH!) about the change in them, I just feel like I have gained 7ish lbs. that refuse to go away. I know that doesn't sound like much but its enough to make my clothes not fit right and make me uncomfortable. I eat healthy and exercise daily... Just can't decide if I should bother trying another pill or not.. I live in a tiny town without a pharmacy, so I buy my bc 3 at a time.. or I would call my Dr. and have to try a new one..

  • I've been on about 4 different BC pills and have always noticed weight gain, but like a PP stated you need to change your eating habits and head to the gym this will reduce the weight gain.

Thanks for your reply. The closest gym is 45 mins away. I run a mile everyday and walk the dog another mile. Plus weight train. I'm pretty sure I am active. I also watch what I eat, like I mentioned before.

  • I've heard 1/3 of people on the pill gain weight.  1/3 lose weight.  1/3 maintain.

I'm guessing those are the same ratios for any given period of time, regardless!  The most likely issue is metabolisms slow down every couple of years; most people do not adjust their diet accordingly.

Running a mile is burning (approximately, depends on your details of course)  100 calories.  A pound is 3500 calories. That 100 calories is pretty insignificant for even wanting to maintain a weight.  Try bumping it up!  A mile takes, what, 9-11 minutes (that's a jogging pace).  Try running for 20 minutes or 30 minutes! Good luck!
