Does anyone have direct tv?
We could save over $1,000 dollars a year by switching to direct tv. For internet/"cable"/phone it will cost about $68 a month. I have no idea what the price goes up to after the 1st year though (and Im sure it varies). Will they tell us the cost after the 1st year?
Anyway, if you have it do you have any issues with it? Anything we need to know about it?
The previous owners of this house left a dish on the roof, could we use that? And, in bad weather (rain, wind, snow) do you ever have any problems?
Re: Does anyone have direct tv?
We do. We are paying $46/month for tv. We can't have internet or phone through them so we have att for that. They may tell you what their regular price it. I'm not sure and if they do, don't be suprised if it's changed by then.
We don't have any issues.
It's not as good as cable, imo but it surves the purpose. The only thing that I really don't care for is that while you do have all these channles there are about 100 that are 24/7 infomercials and they are smack in the middle of the useful channels. It sometimes goes out if it's really cloudy/raining, but not always. No idea about the snow or the old dish, bit I would think that you could use the older dish...we didn't have to buy or rent ours, but we did have to pay the people when they installed it...no one told me before hand and I kinda felt like I was being scammed...
They used to do a thing where if you refer a friend you and the friend both got $10 off your bill for 10 months. Let me know before you call and I'll give you the info you need and see if we can get that.
We have it and love it. We havent had many issues (once or twice it has gone out in a bad storm but it was back on quickly) and the money saved it totally worth it. We have way more channels than we did with cable, which is nice.
We only have the tv with them, because I had troubles with AT&T (that is who the phone and internet was through with them - it is not directly from Direct TV) so I would ask about that to see who the provider is.

How is their customer service?
Cable is awful
we have direct tv. In our area we have country cable which is like 20 channels so most people have a sat. of some sort. I enjoy it. The only time I dont really carre for it is when it gets bad windy or rainy the signal is lost. But one of our local news channels seems to always be able to come through when you need it.
When we first got it something happened with our bill I can not remember and I called for 3 months straight trying to get the problem fixed and finally after the 4th time they got it.
I don't have DirecTV but I do have Dish Network.
They should tell you what the cost will be after the first year, if you ask. That's not "secret" information.
I don't think you can re-use a previously owned dish, but I could be wrong. I think the reason they are often left behind when people move is because you get a new one when you start new service, and it's included in the price. Again, I could be wrong on that.
Like I said, I have Dish Network, not DirecTV, but we rarely have problems in bad weather. In 1 year, it's probably gone out twice, and it was never for very long.
In terms of customer service, it's usually a safe assumption that cable, satellite, phone, etc companies have horrible customer service, even if they have good JD Power & Associates ratings and what not.
we had it for 2 years up until we went cable free. we only had tv through them. our discounted rate was $50, regular rate for the basic package, no dvr w/ two boxes (for two tvs) was $75. we had hd/dvr service on a 3rd box at one point and our bill was $95.
I liked the service. our channels were pretty much the same as when we had charter cable. I did like that we had the screen where you could scroll through to choose your channel and look forward to see what was coming on later.
customer service was fine. we had issues when we first moved in. when they first put in our dish (on top of our house) it wasn't in a good spot. there were too many trees and it was causing our service to go out all the time. they came out 3 or 4 times to try to fix the problem and eventually wound up having to reset it up in the backyard. they were very quick to come out when we made calls.
I've had the worst customer service w/ comcast and charter, so I'd say dealing w/ direct tv was an absolute breeze.
as far as the dish being left behind..when we turned ours off, we asked if they needed to come out and remove the dish. they told us to just leave it there and if we ever wanted to turn our service back on they could use it.
the signal was fine. it would go out every once in a while if there was a bad storm with super strong winds, but for the most part we didn't have problems.
you can customize your list so you don't have to scroll through all the channels you don't get or don't want to see. you can even make customized lists to show only your favorite channels.
