Costume Ideas Please!

So for our dinner club this Saturday our host has chosen a Clue murder mystery party.  I'm supposed to be Mrs. White (the maid) and hubby will be Colonel Mustard.

I'd like to dress the part but 1) I'm not sure what stores would have pre-made customes/accessories available this time of year and 2) I don't want to spend too much money (so homemade costumes are ideal!).

 Any bright ideas?

Re: Costume Ideas Please!

  • I know there is a place in Reading called Talk of the Town that has a ton of costumes all year round.  I've heard that some of their items can be a little pricey, though.  I was also thinking that Cappel's would more than likely have costumes; they usually carry them all year round as well.  I know there is one in Blue Ash but believe they have a few locations around town.  GL!

  • Have you tried Party City?  For the maid you really could do a solid dress with an apron on top of it with a feather duster.

This. I think it would be really easy to make one up with just a solid black or blue dress and a white 1/2 apron. It'd probably be far more comfortable than a cheap-material costume anyway.

But, there's also Schenz theater supply in Northside. Cappel's. You might even try the Party Source. I'm sure Hustler's got something - LOL - but that might not be the look you're going for in a large group.

  • Ah all great ideas!  Love it and keep them coming!

I looked at Party City's website and looks like they have a maid headpiece and duster.  Didn't see an apron on there, though.  I have a black & white cocktail dress that may suffice and give the general idea.

For hubby, I think I might find a mustard yellow shirt and he can wear a khaki blazer and khaki pants for the general idea.  Party City has a safari hat on their site, too.  He's not big on dressing up so alternatively I may buy a yellow t-shirt and do a homemade t-shirt transfer mimicking a Colonel Mustard Clue shirt that I saw on the net.

  • You could get him a big fake mustache.

I don't know what it is, but guys always seem to like big fake mustaches once you get the glue and costume out.

I LOOOOOOVE costume events - and my H is usually ho-hum on them. Until the day-of actually comes and I'm putting the costumes together. THEN - he's all in and having a blast.

  • I would go to Cappels, they carry costumes year round.  We just went there for a themed birthday party last month.

I bought my hubby a mustard yellow dress shirt from kohls a while back.
