I have this sister in law

who is psycho! For all of you who were on the knot with me, its the same old story. SHE'S NUTS! She has insisted on having her wedding this month since her parents (who are paying for it) put their foot down when she wanted to have it before mine in May...To the guy she hadn't even been with a year. (Normally, I'm ok with quick engagements/marriages...if the people are both mature and her and her dude are not!)  She has been jealous of hubs and I since day one. I know she couldnt stand that her 24 yr old younger brother was getting married before her (she's 29). Well the wierdest things have continued to happen....

I know you all remember that the second my then FI and I decided to buy a house she convinced her boyfriend to buy a house he could not afford. (he's paying for nursing school while working part time as a security guard) THEN when our wedding was being planned in full swing she wanted to have hers before ours. That idea was shot down. Well, now they are going to the same place we honeymooned at...doing the same thing for their rehearsal dinner...and get this (we just bought a Dodge Charger because DH's car got totaled from the hail) they are wanting to buy a Dodge Charger. Their reason is, they are roomie for her son's carseat. I'm pretty sure a Honda has just as much backseat space.....

This chick has NO job has yet to finish school because she can't pass her teaching exams (so they froze her schedule) My in-laws have been paying for her and her child from day 1, being there through all the degree major changes (all 7 years worth) and now they are paying for the wedding. They care for her son EVERY weekend so she can be with her fiance and they bow down to her just to keep her happy because when she gets mad she puts everyone around her on a guiltrip.

I'm not a psychologist but there HAS GOT TO BE something mentally wrong with her. I have never met anyone as difficult and as strange as her......

The other day she told me the jewelry I wear is gaudy.....ummm....I like gaudy jewelry. I like big chunky stones and giant earrings and anything unique....and I make a lot of my own. SO....because she tried to take over my photographer at my wedding and was directing us on how to pose for pictures and what not, I'm going to find the gaudiest chunkiest earrings to wear to her wedding. So she can she them in the pictures till the day she dies. :)

  • Oh Steph, how I would love to see what DSIL posts on TK in regard to her wedding planning.  I'm sure she sees you (along with everyone around her) as the "crazy" SIL - I bet her posts are ridiculous.  I like the approach for your jewelry at her wedding.  Maybe you can find an obnoxiously large necklace to go with those earrings.  And you could wear an ivory, strapless dress too!  Hehe :)
  • I'm so sorry you have to deal with someone like that...

Oh please please PLEASE let her start posting on the knot!!!  Steph, you HAVE to find out her screen name!!  Any time she posts an idea, we can tell her it's tacky and stupid and then suggest something completely ridiculous that she should do instead!!!

    Starting with enabling parents. Unbelievable.

It's so weird that she's trying to copy your wedding and your life. She must be insanely jealous of you. She's probably insanely jealous of how cute you always look with your accessories, too, and that's why she made the little dig about it.

I like the idea of piling on the chunky, bright-colored stones for her wedding!

I'm sorry that you have to deal with her, but I'm glad that somebody understands the frustrations of a do-nothing, whiny 20-something SIL who is always getting bailed out by her family (in our case, it's HH's cousins, to whom he does not speak). Thank goodness I haven't seen her or heard directly from her since the wedding.

  • I can't believe I'm not the only one with a weirdo for a SIL.

Where the ugliest thing you can find to her wedding. "Enjoy your wedding pictures, skank"

  • Hey, Stephers, the dress my MIL wore to my wedding is now on clearance at JC Penney! :)

    http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=50434&CatID=75184&GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=17ecc99&attrtype=&attrvalue=&CMID=50449|50444&Fltr=&Srt=&QL=F&IND=6&cmVirtualCat=&CmCatId=50449|50444|75184

You could put some big, chunky pink earrings and necklace with it and pair with a white cardigan and white shoes. ;)

  • Her enabling parents are the biggest problem.

You and your H should sit down with them and talk about it, or it will never end....

  • I am really sorry that you have to deal with this!!  Thankfully the only crazies I have to deal with are my MIL and FIL.  And they live a plane ride away so we only see them usually 2x a year.

Between HH and I, we have 5 brothers and sisters, who are all married, so we have 10 siblings/in-laws all together.  You'd think that with 10 people there would be at least one total head case, but there really isn't.  We are so fortunate that we have the greatest siblings, and that they chose amazing partners.  They're kind of necessary too, because my mom has her crazy moments as does HH's parents...so it's great to have so many people to be able to commiserate with when the parentals are losing their friggin minds :)

And at 29 years old, your SIL needs to get her sh!t together...what do your M and FIL have to say about her?  (It sounds like they understand that she is at least mildly insane, if they shot down her desire to get married before you).

Baaahahaha!!  This is a good one.  I remember the saga with your MIL's dress and yes, that would be a great one for Steph to set SIL off with!  At $17.99, you can't go wrong Steph!!

  • Just remember though, whatever you wear to her wedding, you're going to have to see the pictures over and over (at least until the marriage fails), so make sure that you feel comfortable seeing yourself in whatever outfit you pick out until then!!  You don't want to give her fuel by showing up looking completely hideous!  You want to look knock-out gorgeous!!

    What Stu said!!

  • Oh gawd Stephers, I feel so bad for you!! One day you're just going to fly off the handle and freak out... and it's going to be completely justified. Has he talked to his parents about their enabling? It sounds like she needs some tough love!

Although, as bad as I do feel for you, I do enjoy your stories : )

  • Also, I think that looking absolutely slamming is the best revenge on her wedding day! I know how I felt when my SIL lost a bunch of weight and had beautiful hair and seriously dramatic make up for the wedding... and then right before we were going to get pictures she pulls out this HUGE rhinestone, vintage looking necklace-- it totally out shined my simple pearl necklace, but luckily it was tangled and my MOH pretended she couldn't get it fixed : )

It drove me CRAZY that she was so concerned with looking perfect and getting the photog to take pretty pictures of her for her FB... and we don't even compete normally! Think of how NUTS it'll make her if you do it : )

Oh DH has told his parents over and over again to stand up to her but they'd rather keep her quiet then try to fight her. She puts people on guilt trips when she doesnt get her way. EX: One weekend she wanted to drive 2 hours away to spend the weekend with friends. Well....MIL works at Sears and had to work and FIL is a delivery guy for Frito Lay and he works 6 days a week from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m and then works another job with Nabisco from 9p.m.-midnight. So, the thing was, they they couldn't watch her 3 yr old son. So SIL went on a schpeel about how she can never spend time with her friends and she's stuck in the house all week with her son and all her friends are going to forget her. She even went in her room and slammed the door. This is what we're dealing with. Oh and I have made it a personal mission to look AMAZING at her wedding. I was going to wear a super cleavage inducing dress but went for a tshirt dress with sinchy sides instead. (see below)

     http://www.nyandcompany.com/nyco/browse/productDetailWithPicker.jsp?productId=prod2120019&categoryId=cat1050023

I got it in a creamsicle color and I also have it in black and in a cornflower blue (what can I say, they were on sale) so I haven't decided which one to wear yet but I'm going to wear it with heels and go get my hair done that day. TEEHEE. Oh yeah, and the chunky glory of all my jewelry.
