No Vax/Delayed Vax questions

Came over from the bump boards to see if I could get some answers. Do any of you local ladies have little ones that you are not vaccinating or have on a delayed schedule? If so, how are your pediatricans with it? Would you mind recommending them if they are supportive of your choices?

Re: No Vax/Delayed Vax questions

  • We do an alternate vaccine schedule.  I have also opted out of the Hep B.  I am delaying MMR.  I also opted out of Varicella, I may never get it for my son and if say he doesn't have chx pox by the time he enters junior high I may get it then.  So far I've had no issue.  I was going to Toledo Peds, they went right along with it, but then I had other issues with them and switched to Franklin Park Peds and they do not have an issue with it either.  I've been asked why I opted out of Hep B and Varicella but all I say is currently my husband and I feel they are not necessary and that is that.

I feel like they give too many shots in one visit so even though say I want him to have those 4 or 5 shots, I make them split it up so we get 2 in one visit and go back a month later and get the remainder.  No big deal, the doctors shouldn't have an issue with it, it is your dime, you have to pay for the office visit a 2nd time.

I haven't really sat down and gone through all the vaccines we will be approached with.  I take it as a visit by visit thing.  If I sat down and was like oh no way, he isn't getting that when he is 4 I'd go nuts.  So I just ask the doctor what he will be getting at the next check up, write it down, go home, research and then when the appt comes I go in and say well, I want to delay MMR and we are opting out of Varicella for now.  I didn't want to bombard the doctor with this huge list of things we don't want in the future, I think it is just easier to handle them as they come.  Make sense??  Obviously I've done reasearch but I'm not overly insane with it.

  • DS's have been delayed only because I don't want to go back to shots for tots.  They're schedule didn't work with mine and I wasn't really pressed to get all of the shots at once.

We're opting out of Hep A and chx pox right now.  If he doesn't get them before, he'll get the chx pox vaccine before he goes to school - since that is now required.

  • Oh yeah, we opted out of Hep A too.

I am assuming I'll be forced by the school to get the Varicella too Lindsey, but I'm waiting until I'm told he HAS to have it for kindergarten, I just find it unnessary right now and if he gets chicken pox before then, sweet, LOL.

  • for research purposes you might want to post this on Eco Family.  I know some of the girls there are feel this way.

I know my chiropractor (DH's best friend) and his wife had to fight the nurses at the hospital when their DS was born because they kept trying to give him vaccines.  They are very anti vaccination.  I'm sorry because I do not remember the research behind it.  I would try the eco boards.

There is a Dr. whose name I'm forgetting who has an altered schedule.  Maybe they will know who I'm speaking of.

  • Dr. Sears has a schedule.  If you google "Dr. Sears Alternate Vaccine" you will get a bunch of stuff.

Also, try the Attachment Parenting board, there are a lot of moms over there that do not vaccinate or do an alternate schedule.  Like LT said, the Eco Friendly is a good one too.
