need ideas - pictures

For my tech tools class, we have to take a series of digital pictures following some of the "rules of photography" as defined on some website.

They need to be something that I can use within my classroom.

I'm thinking that science would be easiest because I can get some nature pictures.

We need to take a close up and a wide shot, follow the "rule of thirds", use "leading lines" and shoot from a different angle.

Then we need to use photo editing software and edit some of the pictures,

Any thoughts on what I could take pics of?

I'm thinking of heading over to side cut later - like after DH gets home.

Re: need ideas - pictures

  • Sidecut would be great for nature pics!!  The lock, the river, the bridges, the plants/trees/flowers -- all offer great opportunities for shots with those rules/ideas.

Causes that are important to me: Planned Pethood Graham's Foundation NOCC
  • the standard rule is get closer and zoom with your feet.  Those always give you the best picture.

I'm a big fan of a rack focus (something far, focuses to something close and visa versa)

The downtown skyline might also provide you with some good pics.  Try getting out at the docks and walking around.  There is also a parking lot just past the docks that man people don't use.  (we use it for city skyline live shots at night).

  • for a leading line if you find a fence post that leads down a road..(that's what leading line is right?)  A way to focus your eye?

or down at docks (I've used this before) one of the pier tie offs Get super close and take a pic of it leading down the riverfront.

To shoot from a different angle I always shoot up. (which can lead to making people look bigger if your shooting people).  I crouch a lot..(hence my back and hip issues) but I hardly ever shoot from eyeline unless it's an interview...and even then I normally shoot off angle.

I saw this interview on a documentary about this night club in Detroit.  The interview angle was crazy.  I so want to try it on a story sometime.  It was shooting up then cocked extreme to the left.  I'd never seen it before.

  • thanks for the tips!  I am NOT  a good photographer and I do not have a good eye for creative things...so this assignment is a bit of a challenge for me.

Thankfully, I just found out that it doesn't have to be school related because it's summer, so that's a little harder to do.  Typically, I would I just take pics of my kids doing different activities.
