Do you have any suggestions for places to visit within around 3 hours drive from Vegas?
Re: Laurainmi***
I do! I'm assuming outdoor stuff.
Hopefully it won't be too hot when you come out. I just say that because I don't deal well with the heat. I'm a crap ass from middle of June until end of August.
There's Lake Havasu City, AZ -- that's about 3 hours. It's a party town during spring break. They have the original London Bridge over the lake, and they have boat tours, and a neat little area with things to do. You can also rent jet skis and stuff.
Laughlin, NV -- it's about 2 hours. You can see the high school I went to, that's about it. It's a 'mini-vegas' with about 10 casinos all along a river walk. I wouldn't waste my time unless there's a concert/rodeo/harley run that weekend..
St. George Utah is about 2 hours. You can gawk at the polygamist -- I always think that's fun. You can hike Zion's national park, which is about 20-30 minutes from st. george. They have some dinosaur tracks you can look at closer to st. george. There's an outdoor theater during the summer at Tuachan, which is about 10 minutes outside of St. George.
Cedar CIty is 3 hours. It's a smaller college town (I graduated from there) Think the size of Big Rapids. They have a Shakespere festival in the summer. There's Bryce Canyon which has bike trails/hiking in the summer, and skiing in the winter.
Let me know if you want hotel/resturant recs for any of those towns.
I forgot to mention the things in town, or closer to town. I've never done these things, but I can find out more about them.
Red Rock Canyon -- a lot of people go hiking. I'm a lazy person and haven't done that.
Mt. Charleston. They have skiing, but people go up there during the summer to.
Lake Mead.
Hoover Dam
Springs Preserve
My friend did this really cool dune buggy type thing. They rode them out in the desert and there was bars and stuff. I'm not really sure, but she said it was a lot of fun. I can find out the name for that.
Thanks for the ideas, Laura. I'll have to check those out.
We are thinking about meeting some friends in Las Vegas next year over Memorial Day weekend. Since it's our anniversary, we will probably want to tack on some extra time.
It is definitely at the far end of our driving threshold, but we're also considering driving to the coast in CA (Laguna Beach/Carlsbad/Oceanside/Sand Diego). We will probably be staying wherever we go for 4-5 nights.
I wouldn't recommend any of those places for 4-5 days. probably 2 days tops.
If it were me, i'd either go to san diego, which is nice. or maybe go to the grand canyon. I've never gone there from vegas, but i can't imagine it being more than 4 hours.
We went to Sedona and the Grand Canyon from Vegas last year. It was nice, but for our anniversary, we always go to somewhere we have never visited together before.
