Have any of you ever been?
DH and I are supposed to go next weekend. I'll admit...I want to back out. When our friends told us about the trip, they made it sound like it was "river rafting"...like, calmly sitting on a raft, floating gently down the river. Yeah...now it turns out that this place is a 4-hour drive away, so we're going to make an overnight trip of it (which I wasn't expecting), and depending on the water level, the white water rapids could be as high a Class 4 (it only goes up to class 5!). Considering I've never done it before, I'm now freaked out this is not an appropriate trip for a beginner!

Re: White Water Rafting?
Holy crap! No way...I cannot do this. These pictures are from the same trip, a few years ago.

I just texted DH and told him I can't go. We'll have to wait and see if he tries to talk me into it. I don't care that we've already paid for it.

WHOAH! I was gonna respond about how white water rafting is SO much fun and so exciting, and that coming from a non-outdoorsy, non-adventurous person. I went in CO (the Snake River - is that in CO? I want to say that's where I went rafting) several years ago and had a blast!
After looking at those pics, I wouldn't want to go either!! That looks terrifying! I want to say the river we did was a category 3, and it was a good balance of "nice, pretty, relaxing river" and "holy crap that's a scary looking current." I'm with you - I'd be scared!
I have been before and it was similar to what Bev experienced I am sure. We went somewhere in TN. It was fun...we had smooth parts and then "oh crap" parts but the "oh crap" parts were nothing compared to those pictures!!
Actually I have been a number of times and one time I thought I was going to drown not to scare you or anything. But the raft tipped over and me and another girl fell out and we got stuck in a current that was circling and trying to take us down. I bet we bobbed up and down for the longest time till one of us was able to get free. It was the scariest time bc we kept going under and then we would pop up catch our breath and the current would pull us under again.
I wouldn't do it but I'm afraid of everything, Heck, I even got nervous doing regular river rafting a couple of years ago.
I have a friend who is a certified guide and she's promised to take Arek (as I won't go, esp not when pregnant!) sometime this summer. I'll just sit at her house on the river and relax!!
