Just curious if anyone else has done the cruise from Boston to Bermuda before? DH and I are leaving for it soon and neither have been to Bermuda before. I'm wondering if any of the excursions are worth the cost or if it's better to go off on our own.

Re: NCL- Bermuda cruise?
While I haven't been to Bermuda or on a cruise, from what I've seen from many people on the boards more people prefer to do their own excursions. There are certainly some things that are nice to have already set up or do with a larger group if you don't mind paying more. But Bermuda is relatively small so I don't think you'll have too much trouble managing on your own. The nice thing about it is that you can spend as much or as little time at a location or doing an activity as you want, not when the tour dictates.
As an example, we're going to Hawaii in a couple months. We've decided to do things like hiking, kayaking, snorkeling and volcano touring on our own. But we are also doing a couple things with companies (more so because you can't really do them yourself): ziplining, horseback riding.
Enjoy your trip!
I've not done the Bermuda cruise either but when I planned our Alaskan cruise I booked all the excursions independently from the cruise line. It's cheaper that way and I get exactly what I want. It's really not hard to do, so I'd do a little shopping around.
In case you don't know about it already, check out www.cruisecritic.com. Their boards are awesome and they'll have a board for Bermuda as well as for the specific cruise you're interested in.
I did this in 05, and loved it. I liked that you were on the island for 3.5 days. It is nice to go to at night and walk around - relatively safe.
We booked a catamaran sail and glass bottom boat tour from the cruise, which were nice. I was there for a wedding, so some people booked other excursions (i.e. horseback riding, jet ski's, parasailing) and it was cheaper to do once you got to the island.
I wonder if you could also check Viator, which is what I did for St. Lucia.
Anyway, I loved the island, and this is what we did on the island days:
1. walk around st. george - ruins, etc. went to a beach there. night--catamaran. swizzle inn at night (acoustic music, lots of rum punch)
2. wedding at sunrise at horseshoe bay (georgeous beach) on other side of island. took cab back, then bus back. went to elbow beach, and had lunch at elbow beach resort. also a nice beach.
3. took bus to hamilton. went to acquarium, walked around downtown hamilton.
4. snorkeling tobacco bay - best $5 you'll ever spend, and easy walk back to the cruiseship. not as crowded as 1st day. last minute souvenirs. boat left around noonish.
Good Luck!
I've been on a few cruises (in the Caribbean) and we've always walked off the boat and found our own tour guides (granted, it's been completely sketchy) but we've had great experiences and seen places that you would never see on a planned tour.
I just came back from that cruise if it is the spirit. On sunday a lot of places close early so DH and I stayed in the dockyard We went to the maritime museum, dolphin quest, clocktower mall, frog and onion, and snorkel park (open till 8 but start closing things down at 6:30).
Monday we bought a 2 day pass at the visitor center for about $20 each. It can be used for bus and ferry. We took a ferry to St. George. I heard good things about the perfumery there (after the trip). Then we took a bus to swizzle inn and had rum swizzles and jerk chicken. Afterwards we walked to the crystal caves (great take). We then took the bus to hamilton. The 2nd floor of city hall has a cool art gallery (free). The garden by perqout p.o. is worth a stroll. I liked Front St. There is a ferry from hamilton back to the dockyard. We had my best dinner at bonefish; catch of the day with rum sauce and plantans (spelling?). Destination dockyard is a great free take. It had gombay dancers and local music.
Tuesday we took a special bus to horseshoe bay beach. We exploered the coves, swam, and went snorkeling. I am glad we purchased water shoes and snorkel gear before the cruise.
I wish I packed a watch. I also wish I knew a lot of things close 4-4:30 p.m. in bermuda. On NCL I liked the chocolate buffet, quest, not so newlywed game, and loved elements. I bought the towel folding dvd. You will get beach towels in your cabin. You can trade them in for fresh ones throughout the cruise on deck 12. Just make sure you have the used one with you. Have fun!
