I need to find a good book to get in to. Come on ladies, help a sista out!
Re: In search of a good read
Ditto, starshine. What books do you LIKE to read?
Thrillers? Chick lit(romance smut)? Beach reads? Biographies? Mysteries? Series books?
It's almost here! Weeeeeeee!

Back in June 2010...
I typically read Dan Brown novels and some Nicholas Sparks. When I was in college I loved reading The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri and Nabokov's Lolita. I'm seriously open for anything.
I love the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich - the new one came out in June.
They are funny mysteries - light reads but I like them!
If you like series books, Janet Evanovich has easy reads that you can get lost in. Mainly, her Stephanie Plum books.
Another one I like is Joanne Fluke, about Hannah Swenson. But beware, her books will make you HUNGRY. Recipes featured in the stories are in the book. That's where I got a LOT of my cookie recipes.
There's a series that I found last year about a wedding planner, carnegie Kincaid. All through the books, I kept picturing OUR planner. She solves mysteries, like the death of a guest. Deborah Donnelly is the author.
And I like Mary Kay Andrews. (Possibly, the Hilton Head references sucked me in.LOL)
That's all I got for now. I seem to really like mysteries and comedy. And food.

Back in June 2010...
The Kite Runner by Hosseini
Anything by Jodi Picoult (some of my favorites- Nineteen Minutes, Handle with Care, House Rules)
Emily Giffin's Something Borrowed and Something Blue
If you are looking for something that's more of a fun summer read:
I second the Evanovich Stephanie Plum books as a good, fun read. I usually laugh out loud at a few points during each book
Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty (first of a series)
Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella (also a series)
Hope this helps!
I like those books, as well.
Also, Jennifer Wiener.

These are older books so there's a high possibility you've already read them or already know you're not interested:
The Time-Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
The Lovely Bones
Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture by Douglas Coupland
American Gods by Neil Geiman
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Geiman
08/13: Started TTC - 07/14: PCOS dx
BFP 09/18/15 - Baby S 05/27/16
fyi- LOVE Stephanie Plum and am SUPER PISSED that Katherine Heigal is Stephanie in the moivie. HORRIBLE casting.
Also love Borrowed and Blue and Baby Proof , and Shopoholic (as PPs suggested)
Actiony- LOVE David Balducci. Like John Grisham but 100 times better (IMO). Ex- CIA/FBI
Last few great books I read: The Piano Teacher, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Water for Elephants, and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Also like Elin Hilderbrand for light summer reads.
And Judy Blume has some great adult fiction- Summer Sisters is my fave.

Ditto on the Stephanie Plum novels!?
arj- I LOVE TERRY PRATCHETT!!!! Srsly hilarious books. Pyramids, Interesting Times and Carpe Jugulum were some of my favorites.
Pro- Baldacci rocks! The Camel Club was my favorite so far.
And back to the subject... lca, do you like horror? That's what I read the most (duh. I
horror everything). I'm reading an old one now (got it at a used book store) The Hellfire Club by Peter Straub. It's fantastic. Confusing at first, but it was totally worth dragging through the first 30 pages. I love love love Dean Koontz- The Taking is his best, by far. I'd stick with his older stuff, though. In the last couple of years his writing's gone really soft and flowery (bummer) Tess Gerritsen rocks- she wrote the books that the new Rizzoli & Isles tv series is based on. Oh, and Tami Hoag. Liska and Kovac are great characters.?
Nora Roberts has a wedding series and I'm salivating waiting for the last book to come out in the fall (I think. Hope.) Umm... I don't remember the name of the series, something about Vows? Anyway, 3 are out now and they all rock. ?
Planned Executed
Bride Quartet? I looked it up on Amazon and I found that. 3 books in the series. Is that what you are talking about?

I'm a little late catching up on my recreational reading - I just finished The Life of Pi by Yann Martel and Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.
I'd definitely recommend both books - Life of Pi was the better book, IMO, but Water for Elephants was more "fun," if that makes sense.
Lauren Willig - Her flower spy series is awesome. I'm having a hard time waiting for them to come out in paperback, so much so, I'm thinking about getting the $189 Kindle.
And ditto Knibs for Jennifer Weiner!
Planning Bio - Woefully out of date
Yes- it's the Bride Quartet... love! The first one is Vision in White. They are on my nightstand now.
I also like Nora Roberts trilogies. I can't get through her stand alone as much, but love her trilogies. There was one about Vampires (Circle trilogy, maybe? About 2 sets ago) that may be my fave. Also love the ones with flower names (Blue Dahlia is the 1st). And there was a good one about sister witches. Aw, hell. I like all of them.

Knibs- yep! That's it. Duh I could have googled it. I also could have stood up and walked 7 feet to my bookshelves. SOMEONE'S feeling a little lazy tonight ::points at chest::?
Pro- YESSSS I love her trilogies, the flower one was great! The witches- is that the one with Captivated, Entranced and Charmed? Good books. They're like, 2 sisters and a brother? Something like that. (The Donovan Legacy- found it!) There's also one about fairies and Irish curses or something that I totally dig. Read it twice. The series is called the Irish Trilogy/ The Gallaghers of Ardmore- Jewels of the Sun/ Heart of the Sea/ Tears of the Moon
Yessssssss I know I'm a total dork. I have 3 huge bookshelves filled with mystery/thriller/horror....... and 2 shelves of Nora Roberts. And it's only 2 shelves because they're double stacked. I'm pretty sure I own 90% of what she's written under her real name. ?
Planned Executed
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. It's a memoir, not a novel, but it was one of those books that I would stay up too late reading because I just wanted to fit one more chapter in before bed.
I love my Kindle. Books are SO much cheaper and since we don't have a ton of space for books, I like that it takes up no room.
If I had a study room, I would SO have one of those floor to ceiling bookcases and it would be packed.

See, I might get one now. (You're such a bad influence.) I refuse to get the iPad since it doesn't have a built in camera (what computing device worth it's shiz doesn't have a built in camera??). (Well I refuse to buy it until it does get a built in camera...)
Planning Bio - Woefully out of date
Hippie- I loved the Gallaghers of Ardmore! Great one. I just looked- the sister witches one is called (wait for it...) the Three Sisters Trilogy.
I have stacks upon stacks of books all over the house. I would fill up one of those awesome bookcases in a New York second.

Hahaha. Bad influence.
Yeah, ipad is a no for me, as well. My mom got one. I asked her why. She said just because. LOL. She didn't need it. I bought her a Kindle for Mother's Day (she loves it, by the way).

I second Jody Picoult - love her, I have not read a book of hers I do not like.
Memory Keeper's Daughter - read it a few years ago, I just saw it @ the store when I was picking out books for the girls to read.
If you like romance, a easy, half day read is Susan Wiggs. My favorite is a series of hers called the Lakeshore Chronicles.
Robin Cook, I think my all-time favorite book is Toxin.
I have been wanting to read "Eat, Pray, Love" - but I have been reading 3 books that I need to finish before I start a new one.
