As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

A girl I know from high school had a child last year. When he was about 2 months old they found he had a heart problem and didn't make it through surgery. She is now pregnant again and having a girl this time. She plans on using the same name that she named her son, just a slightly different spelling. Does this seem odd to you?

Yes. Especially because they had to have a funeral for her.
We struggle with the same thing if a match fails, since we have names picked out.

Her perception of this is all up to how her parents raise her. I am willing to bet that they are caring people by the reaction to the loss of their son.
